[Indie] Garden State [New Jersey] (14)

I just saw "Garden State." It was good, but could have used less in-your-face symbolism and film techniques. I didn't really like the female lead's character, but the rest of the characters were great.

Anyone else seen it?

I didn't like it that much. It's been sometime since I've seen it. I guess it was OK but people overhyped it and killed it for me :(

I expected a good film, but this was just about the obvious angst everybody's dealing with. Pointless.

overrated tripe.

It was a good film.

But does anyone know of anything in the same vein, but better?

Little Miss Sunshine is kind of in the same vein, but it's much worse. It's slightly better than a lot of formulaic shit that comes out in theaters these days, but that doesn't change the fact that it's shit. I didn't enjoy it much at all; it seems that it tried to go in too many places at once and cover too many themes.

A friend told me that Garden State is our generation's "The Graduate." Having seen both movies, I disagree.. but I understand the point my friend was trying to make.

Love the film....LOVE LOVE the soundtrack. One of my most favorite movies ever....

I liked them both. GS was more moody, but it had a solid wit to it. Little Miss Sunshine...it was trying to do the whole "dysfunctional family" thing, throwing in homosexuality, road trip, and and musical-dancey edge. Meh, I laughed.
