Any other disgruntled "movie guys" here? Let's share the pain.

i always thought working at a video store would be my summer job-of-choice... what's so painful about it?

I worked at a local video store a few months ago and it was extremely boring. I would open the store at 8am and then lie down behind a row of movies where the camera couldn't see me and fall asleep.

I got fired from the job, but that was due to tardiness.

Depends what kind of store you work in. I go to an independent video store where there's always 3 or 4 film students working the place, and they're allowed to play just about any movie they want. They just spend the whole time bullshitting. One time I overheard a conversation about how 70s zombie movies are better because they used real maggots.

I worked in an adult video store for a year. it was the best time. Free porn and extra cash.

During your campaign, how many public masturbators did you catch and how many unclean tapes were anonymously returned.

Rule One: All screen the original movie in the store on the day that the remake is released, you'd be amazed what this will do for your social life.

Does people still go to video stores, when there's netflix and well... torrents ?

Obviously. It's ignorant to think that everyone is as computer-literate as you are. Ask the average person on the street if they've downloaded any good torrents lately, and they'll likely just stare at you quizzically. Netflix has shipping time, and not everyone rents movies often enough to justify paying that much per month.

So yes, lots of people still go to video stores. They aren't doing quite as well as they were 10 years ago, but they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

I still work at a video store. Going on 3 years now.

I guess sometimes it can be cool.

But it's nothing like what people think. I don't sit around all day talking about film and watching films. Yeah, maybe if I worked in a small suburban video store. But we get too many customers and returns to be standing around doing nothing.

And most of my co-workers are dumb teenagers who think Twilight and Transformers are good films. I have nothing to discuss with them.

My manager used to be a cool guy who was really into old horror films. We used to talk all the time and there weren't many customers back then (probably cause he wasn't a good manager). But since he left and business picked up, it's just been an endless nightmare of complaining customers and piles of returns.

Internet Killed the Video Store. And a bunch of other stuff. A lament...

Oh, man. Hey guys. This thread reminded me about what I now consider to be the best rental store humor I've ever seen.

Check out the "Acts of Gord". Googling Gord will take you straight to it.

It's this guy who runs this video game shop (not exactly movies, but the crowd is similar) and well, awesome ensues. From what I gather it's more or less a compilation of real events and people.

Anyway, I like it a bunch. I'm probably going to read it again now.
