I only watch Pawn Stars, mostly since its based in Vegas, and Vegas is awesome. I watched an episode of Auction Hunters but didn't care about it at all. I've watched a few eps of Antiques Road Show basically when nothing else was on.
I do watch another show called American Pickers, where they buy old shit from people. Its alright. I don't watch it faithfully, just whenever its on and I'm not doing anything else.
American Pickers sort of reminds me Bargain Hunt, only its not as gameshow-y.
Not all reality TV is like that. Most of reality existed under one original genre: Documentaries.
I actually kinda like all the antique and auction reality shows, particularly "Hollywood Treasures" and "Oddities". It's interesting to see what people bring in.
I've gotten into this Gold Rush show on Discovery (because I was stuck at home sick one night when they played the whole first season). It's related to this thread because it's basically the worst form of desperate gambling (which has apparently replaced all industry). These down and out middle-class men drop everything to try to make their fortune in Alaska/Yukon Territory. It's ridiculous.
They're completely delusional and convinced there's gold there. Never mind what others have told them, never mind geology, they just mine whatever and make bad decision after bad decision. They're literally faith-based mining.
Have you watched Whale Wars and found yourself rooting for the whalers? It's kind of like that. The guys get themselves in deeper and deeper financial trouble and it's entirely their own fault.

I basically don't watch much other than the public channel. American TV is just there to placate the masses. But the pubclic channel has nothing but NHK, DW-TV, and science lectures. It's awesome.

I do love the era of digital television bringing us more options. I live in an area overlapped by two public broadcasters. There are a total of six channels with four in English now instead of just two (why don't commercial broadcasters bring us more content, btw?). Of those, one channel is nothing but foreign news broadcasts. It's a great relief to see that somewhere in the world the news consists of reports of actual events. I love Al Jazeera. It's just calmly-stated straight news with zero bullshit. CNN seems to be nothing but reading tweets these days.
On the other hand, RT is super LOL. It's nothing but "Russia is great, Vladimir Putin sure is handsome, and next on RT: Why America is going to collapse within the week!" I guess it's also refreshing to know that blatant propaganda is still being produced too...
RT is pretty decent as long as they don't talk about Russia. But really most national media is like that. BBC is great if not talking about Britain, etc.

NHK is very very unbiased. However it us painfully obvious that their "interviews" are scripted and per-rehearsed. DW-TW seems to only talk about money. But it's from Germany to maybe that is the only thing on German peoples minds atm.
