I like watching anime as much as the next guy on this bbs, however since I have a job and other interests I am increasingly finding it hard to keep up with new shows. For example Bleach, I think I am up to episode 26. Yakitate Japan I am also struggling to keep up with. New shows I want to watch, Eureka 7, Trinity Blood and Speed Grapher I just have no time to download and watch at all!
I also have DVDs of FLCL to watch and I haven't even started on them :(
Have you guys ever been in this situation, and do you have any suggestions for keeping up with anime?
Not everyone has exclusive access to their computer, or the desire to leave it on 24/7.
<shudders> The horror! :P
Lately I've been relying more on youtube instead of torrents, especially for sampling and following the long running shonen anime. No waiting and the quality is... well, the subs are legible. If I really like it or it has exceptional art/animation then I'll get the torrent.
Good thinking, youtube might be an idea. I'd normally go by the reccomendations of fellow Otaku if I'm unsure of what to watch at any given time, not that something like that happens very often I'd watch almost anything in the last 12 months I've gone through almost a terabyte of anime excluding my dvds. But that's 'cause I can download and watch anime in work. I'm sure the ppl on this thread can give reccomendations on what to watch to the initiator of this thread if he gives an idea of what kind of shows he likes. But if time is the problem there is little one can do bar missing out on sleep or getting some kind of personal media player and sneeking episodes in here and there. Sadly I'm guilty of both of the previous omg i have no life.
well i usually just download episodes whenever they come out, and then like i gradually try to watch them. im a college student but right nowis summer so i have time to watch it right now. i usually can watch 4 episodes or something over a day (for some reason if i watch it in a row, i get really sleepy -_-) so i gradually catch up to an anime, but ya i still have a lot that i want to watch...
Friends are useless so you should get rid of those. I understand that you have to work but can't you cut it down to part-time? Having a girlfriend is fine and dandy, but only as long as the time you spend with her is earned back by the time she spends cooking, cleaning and doing the laundry for you. This is the perfect trade-off.
Friends are useful for saving download bandwidth.
I tried to break up with my gf coz I didn't have enough to watch animes in the weekends
Ideal Otaku declarations.
Anybody watching this anime? It's so pretentious sometimes that I could choke myself, but I'm watching it anyway - anyone else?
At least it doesn't have any basset hounds! Yet.
∵proxy?
>>22
Ergo proxy is a stupid name , "Therefore a power that subsitues another ting"
Prob somone in japan just looked up a dictionary and found Ergo then proxy , just like they found GUN and DAM ;)
>>25 You didn't watch the boredom that is G4's special on the game, did you? :P
It could also mean "resulting in an alternative" giving it a very loose interpretation, but still doesn't make much sense :-)
Haha, Dai Sato thinks Derrida is a philosopher?
I saw a couple of episodes at Anime North. The voices are acceptable(Seiji's was even pretty good iirc) except for Hazuki, who sounds too obviously like an adult woman trying to make a child's voice. That's not why I made the thread.
The OP and ED both had the vocal tracks removed! What the hell is Tsukuyomi without Neko Mimi Mode?! The opening fell completely flat with the instrumental(karaoke?) version. It completely baffles me why they would make that kind of change. Don't dubs usually leave the sub the songs or use english vocals?
Maybe they're working on a English vocal version?
...
oh god

or ending. subtitled version too! the original composer wouldn't give sunrise the rights. whether it was because he wanted an unreasonable amount of cash or because sunrise is cheap is a mystery whose answer we can only speculate about.
The Zeta theme songs were written by Neil Sedaka. True story.
It's probably just Bandai being cheap, although when someone asked him about it he didn't reply.
There is seriously no Neko Mimi Mode? Fuck it then! I want neko mimi or no purchase!
Man oh man oh man, and I deleted my fansubs! Neko Mimi Mode has to be on the DVD, I don't care if it's not the dub as long as the sub got it. Why would Funi do that, Take out a song that spawned a million references on every otaku message board.
From a Funimation rep on AoD:
*It's a freaking preview DVD we burned from work with only two episodes. You'll have the Dimitri From Paris song on the DVD.
The sky is not falling.*
There you go.

Phew.
And the link for anyone who's curious.

Thank god! I'll be getting this then!
Forget dubs. There's no point unless you're illiterate.
Please teach to me.
Please teach excluding the one to use P2P such as BitTorrent Files.
Almost everybody uses P2P. BitTorrent in the west, and Winny in Japan.
Also, "oshiete" is often "tell" in English, not "teach".
tuuhuo sumasuta
HTTP and FTP downloads are generally a backup system to help P2P-impaired people, please consider the bandwidth needed, and refrain from using them if your network doesn't completely prevent the use of P2P.
For Anime with english subtitles I'd normally use www.fansub.tv for http downloads, it's free to use but you may be put in a queue if the server is busy, I'm in Ireland so I normally get fairly good speeds before the Americans go online.
Also for ftp downloads there is a subscription service from www.downloadanime.org ( http://danimeftp.com/ ) which only costs about $6 a month. You will need a programme like smart ftp for this http://www.smartftp.com/.
Try google to find others for direct downloads
Episode 10 was fucking GOLD. Tamaki's vision of poor Haruhi had me busting a gut. Then the housekeeper, and the guys failing at not offending Haruhi, and Haruhi's DAD... it was too much!
Reverse trap Haruhi is superior.
ok i might get lenched for saying this but this is a subject about bad anime lets just say i loved the whole series but when they made the last episode it sucked so bad i was like what thats it and then it was like we'll make a movie to get it right and that was even worse. if you can't guess by now im talking about Neon Genesis Evangelion with so much great character's it end really bad no bad is not even how i can discribe it. it is like a bad taste left in your mouth after you eat somethin good.
>>3 is super DQN.
I don't have enough cups, so...
I know I've been told they aren't that bad and that there isn't that much dialogue, but MAN, they ARE bad (so many "to"s instead of "too", several wrong cases of plural/singular, just regular stuff that could easily have been corrected with ONE session of checking) and it PISSES me off.
So yeah, I don't think I want to watch the series anymore now after episode 2. Has anyone else subbed them?
Speedsubbing = kowai.
Shining Fansubs recently said that they ditched the series :S

In the same thread they also said they might pick it up again.

So how about them new torrents?
They make me very happy, that's what!
So, how bout them Windy Tales? It's a beautiful series, don't you think?
Posting in a thread titled "So...".
So... how 'bout that local sport team, eh?
My local sports team is better than your local sports team.
We need a thread for that big pile of awesome that is Utena! If you haven't seen the 39-eps series and the movie (in that order), you really should, it's a classic you don't want to miss.
There is much metaphysical surreal stuff going on, and by that I mean fucked up stuff, if you go read up about the story it won't do it justice.

Utena is an awesome series. Although, some people prefer to watch the movie after watching the TV show, I agree with >>12 that the movie can hold on its own, although it probably freaks out a lot of people.
> it probably freaks out a lot of people
If you watch the movie first, the whole movie is about "OMG WEIRD SHIT HAPPENS FOR NO REASON". It's quite an acquired taste.
Utena the movie moar liek The End of Utena amirite?
Utena is most definitely one of my top five favorite anime. For one thing, everyone is screwing eachother, yet that fact is displayed in a rather subtle way. Its beautiful and over the top. The music is awesome and the characters are memorable. Great series. I really enjoyed the film too. ^.^
About the composer of the duel tracks, J.A. Seazer, is there any actual info out there? I remember searching like crazy a few years ago, yet all I could find was basically "Did music in the 60's. Did music for Utena. Member of a theatrical company. Doesn't exist at all otherwise"
Haven't seen the film yet but from the few images I found online I wonder why Utena has short hair?
I've only watched up to the start of the 2nd arc in the anime series so far but plan to finish the series when I have the time. I hope it gets less episodic soon though... it's also a bit annoying how the duels themselves are (or seem) much shorter than the zettai unmei song + stair sequence. >_<
> Haven't seen the film yet but from the few images I found online I wonder why Utena has short hair?
If you were to actually watch it, that would be the least of your worries.
>Akio would fuck the crack of dawn.
Ah, so THAT'S why his name means "morning star"!
I'll be going to Anime North in May. Anyone else going to it, or other cons?
>>10
Can do! If you don't mind wierd sweaty geeks.
Wow, quite a few of us are going to Anime North. If anyone lives in the Toronto area, there's another con this Friday. http://www.otakuisland.ca/home.htm It's part of the larger Paradise Toronto Comicon. http://www.torontocomicon.com/
The main events are going to be a cash prize costume contest and the premiere of Animation Runner Kuromi 2.

How about going as a person who can write coherent sentences in actual English?
>>17

Heads up, there's a 4chan meetup in Anime North on Saturday at 4 in the hall outside the pool. Also,
>Aiya is giving out hugs and awesome art to anyone that mentions the thread to her, because she is awesome. Find her in the Artist Alley, dressed as a beautiful Rinoa.

Anyone planning to go to AX?
Anime Expo July 1-4 in Anaheim,CA.
The REAL AX is in Cali.
there was only one AX in new york; it fizzled out and died after one year. shame; they got REALLY good guests (kawamoto, kanno, and watanabe were all present, promoting bebop, and yoshiyuki tomino himself, to boot).
CLAMP is gonna be at this year's AX.
Wow, CLAMP. That's awesome.
CLAMP sucks D:
I'm going to Card Captor Sakura your ass.
"there was only one AX in new york; it fizzled out and died after one year. shame; they got REALLY good guests (kawamoto, kanno, and watanabe were all present, promoting bebop, and yoshiyuki tomino himself, to boot)."
Actually NY was more of a testing ground for AX Tokyo which was 2 years ago. AX Tokyo was awesome! ^_^...but I'm also glad it's still in my home turf "SoCal"
How is AX Tokyo different than regular AX? Or other cons in Japan for that matter...
Who's going?
