1/100? 1/144? What is the difference? (32)

1 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-08-31 23:33 ID:ISTh58XH

I'm not sure where to ask this but I'm wondering what is the difference between 1/100, 1/144 and other gundam plastic model sizes?

2 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-01 00:02 ID:Heaven

1/100 are slightly bigger?

3 Name: zakumaster 2005-09-05 18:03 ID:XlMULl4+

old post but deserves a answer.
But first grades
NG=Normal models , dont expect anything good.
LG=simple models that is cheap in price.
HG=Bandai's main fleet , good proportions and good design.
MG=almost best.
PG=cost's like MUCH and is PERFECT.

the sizes.
1/144(all NG and some HG come in this , HG 1/144 SEED is bad , but HGUC 1/144 may be good)
1/100(HG and MQ come in this size)
1/60(some BIG(same as NG just bigger/more details but no near as good as MG or PG) gundam kits , and PG.

Then your question:
1/100 big and good proportions , need almost no paint , many parts , most move.
1/144:smaller and worse then 1/100.

Hi, I'm the anonymous who asked the question. Thanks for explaining the sizes in so much detail! I guess I'll just try to get 1/100 since 1/144 doesn't sound very good. I'm going to try other otaku hobbies besides anime/manga/videogames so I was going to start with models first. Maybe there should be a model section for 4-ch?

I don't mind adding boards if I know that they are going to be used well, and aren't just going to sit around and idle. More boards are coming soon btw.

i will use it , ok for Random Anime Otaku , www.hlj.com would be a good palce to get items. and dalong.net would be good to check pics of the models.
I am getting Red frame and MS-06S next week i think :D

Sweet, I'll buy one of the models from hlj in a week or so. We should use the new model board to show off our handiwork with building them and helping others out!

That Red Frame looks so cool with it's sword! And that MS-06S Zaku reminds me..I just got a Dengeki Hobby and Hobby Japan magazine in the mail that goes over all of the new Zakus coming out. Maybe I should scan it or something, some of them look really cool (or funny as in the case of the pink one..)

Why not use this thread to talk about models first and see how many people we can get to participate?

stoled from somewhere:

http://www.deadfrog.us/index.php?action=view&view=entry&entryid=2435

This torrent is a series of 30 min episodes on making/building model, each ep has a different theme/target model, to which a professional builder will try to make. The videos are raw, no sub, but what they do on screen is pretty self explainatory. Must watch for hobby fans.

Did you have to paint it? Show pictures of it when you have completed it!

13 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-15 18:38 ID:XlMULl4+

i will if i get a camera , did't paint it but it still looked good (its one of the best HG 1/100 out there).
Im planning on painting my Zaku though , but i have to see about that.

i'm just starting to get into models. actually it's because of BBS and some cool things i've seen on 4chan's /m/. I want an RX-7803S. Anyone have one?

15 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-18 12:09 ID:XlMULl4+

>>14 sorry never heard about it(maybe it was custom made) , but if you like MSG i would recomend that you start with some HGUC kits , because if you start at MG or PG you will likly do somthing wrong , and feel sorry for it afterwards.

16 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-18 12:13 ID:XlMULl4+

>>14 if ment RX-78 GP03s i foud one http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN35765
but it's backordered and is a 1/144 made in 1994 meaning crap quality , so id recomend another one.

thanks a lot for the advice, i'll keep this in mind!

>>16, >>17
i'm sorry. i'm also very new at mobile suits in general (really my only is a few games and watching the original MS Gundam at a younger age, as well as Gundam Wing, Evagelion, 08th MS Team, and some others, before really paying attention to the models and such), but i'm working on learning more now.

Yes, the RX78-GP03S was correct.
Thank you both for the links.

A local anime shop ( http://wizzywig.com/photos/albums/Store%20-%202005/19-models4.JPG ) has some SD models. I might go with those, they're cheaper and look easier. After getting the hang of painting and building correctly, I think i'll get a RX78-GP03S, Zaku II, and Red comet, as they seem to be the "standards." I don't really like the Wing series truthfully but I think a Wing Zero Custom model might be really cool.

Any other suggestions for a beginner? They also have Eva and other series (FMP, RaXephon) models in that store, so i'm open to anything.

Thanks!

oh, yes. I'd just like to add, if a model board was added, I'd use it often (^^.

Red Comet? Something of Char's?

Amazon is having a sale on MGs, though they don't have many.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/13664681/ref=br_dp__3/002-3749931-2048802

If you don't mind the chance of getting a banged up box, go for it. I ordered a GM, and all of the parts were fine.

21 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-21 13:38 ID:XlMULl4+

Are they used , and from another person or from amazon?
Still i want to shop at HLJ , because i have heard that the japanese MG's are better then the US releases of the same kit

22 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-21 15:25 ID:UCwZT6Yt

They're not used, of course. I believe they're from Toys R Us.

I got into modelling sometime before spring. I watched SEED, Destiny then moved on to the UC gundams. I picked up a MG Gouf Custom for my first model, and got hooked. still a newb at it, but improving.

I'm currently building a 1/144 HG Gouf Ignited Mass Production model from GSD. Mostly just to test my hand at painting it (nothing major, just panel lines, shield, small details. I would go the full 9 yards, but I do not have an air brush yet (or any good paints for that matter) just using some gundam markers I bought a few months ago.

I also bought a wack of models about 2 weeks ago, MG Zeta, MG MK-II Titans, HGUC Quebley, HGUC Hyaku Shiki, HGUC Hizack (EFS colors), Dreadnought Gundam, and this Gouf. I plan on picking up an airbrush and some paints maybe next week.

finished my red frame now , it is so cool :D
next week i think il start on MG ms-06s(char's zaku fyi)

I ended up getting a few models and I've got some questions, on tools, techniques, and a few other things. Being optimistic, I'll wait awhile for a Models board, save my questions, and ask there if one appears one day.

26 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-09-25 03:47 ID:ISTh58XH

>>25 Go to requests and ask for a models board! I know it will be used often. There needs to be more boards.

I say just make this thread popular first.

28 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-01 22:30 ID:UCwZT6Yt

Hey guys, >>20 here. The thread seems to be dying...

But anyways, I built the GM I bought. I was surprised with how smoothly everything came together, as compared to some of the flimsier HG kits. It looks great even without painting. I also decided to try out the rub-on decals that came with it... and, well. It's wearing it's right shoulder armor on the left now. Anyone have tips on how to get them on properly?

Glad to see there are more people out here who enjoy building these models. ^_^

I have quite a few 1/100's, although id have to say the MG 1/100's are beautiful and worth the added cost. They're not that complicated and you can really lose time adding the line detail to give it a more anime-ish look. Currently working on MG Freedom and just finished MG Aile Strike. Ill see if i can add some pics.
