Has anyone else seen this show? I've only seen the first three episodes, but it is really intriguing right now. Sort of like a mix between GITS and AI. Seems to me like it has alot of promise.

In all fairness, http://4-ch.net/anime/kareha.pl/1142514982/1 completely failed at titling and starting a thread, and I think it'd be better to use this one instead.

The art quality is very high, and the HD-TV versions of the subs are quite enjoyable to watch. Although, they take up ~90% of my processor cycles.

I just watched the three first episode, and my god, that's one pretentious show. They have characters named "Derrida" and "Lacan", for crying out loud.

It's not a bad pretentious show, but there sure is enough pretentiousness that it gets quite distracting.

What's wrong with that? I guess the intended Japanese audience does not know of people such as Derrida, nor will most of the global audience. Those that want to know more about the creators thoughts can read up about the origin on the character names.

However, I can see if you're an expert in the subject, and Derrida and Lacan come up and are not used in the right way, that it might be dislikeable. For example, the reference to Edmond Dantes in "V for Vendetta". The mainstream won't get the reference, while those that know may find it stupid. I won't continue on this tangent however.

Any reference to post-modernism means you're hopelessly and irrecoverably pretentious.

Any reference to postmodernism being pretentious means you're hopelessly and irrevocably pretentious.

Surely they don't need to THROW us the goddamn philosophy rightin our faces? I mean, I kind of like that stuff, but still, it's far from non-pretentious.

And it's not consistent either, ep 5 was a load of junk, the old guy jsut became totally unbeliveable

Using the word "narrative" in a postmodern thread.

Ok, I've watched this up to episode 9 now, and the series really is losing it. It's turning into Xenosaga - it's all posturing and references to philosophy and religion, without any meaning or substance. Neither has the action bit held any excitement after the first couple of episodes.

I really don't know if I can bother watching it any longer. I think I'll just watch Noein instead, which does many of the same things as Ergo Proxy, but which is actually highly entertaining.
