"Tokyo Tribe 2"
I saw an episode a while ago, 'didn't like it. 'Forgot what it was about - super powered humans fighting in the streets? I heard it becomes guro later on.
Tokyo Tribe 2:
Western urban black gangsta action, only in Japan. Completely unrelated to any sort of supernatural action at all. Character designs like Kemonozume but much more normal. There is quite a lot of violence but that is the point.
CATBLUE DYNAMITE:
Miami gangsters and a catgirl and a ghost get shot at over a Frank Sinatra tape with secret info in it. 45 minutes of celshaded 3D animation.
Basically Killer 7: The Anime.
Also, voices entirely in accurate English!

This is too bizarre to pass up, and seeing as how you've provided us with the torrent, I can't resist. <3
*FREEDOM 01 *
"On the Moon, the children of the remaining surviving humans finish their compulsory education when they are 15. Like other boys, Takeru is going to take part in a race with his friends."
3D anime.
Ugh, this anime made me sick in my stomach like when I tried to play Half-Life... I can't stand when humans are gliding over the ground instead of walking properly, it looks so unnatural that my guts are revolting. I'll pass.
Strike Witches:
Mechamusume in WW2!
Pros: Like Sky Girls, only actually well-made.
Cons: Only eight minutes! The only battle is a training exercise and then there's only a bit more obligatory moé content.
Sorry if I'm off the topic of this thread slightly, but I haven't been watching much animu lately and I'm wondering, if there's one anime series I watch this season, what should it be?
Nobody knows, none of them have started yet!.
Kyoushiro to Towa (not "Eien" actually) no Sora:
This show is made by Kaishaku and therefore it SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS
Update: instead of making terrible otaku shows they're making a terrible shoujo show.
The main character is named KUU SHIRATORI and constantly says her own name and calls things SUTEKI. The male lead is a rapist.
There is a magical catgirl vampire and a magical maid and they fight each other in giant robots.
Saint October 01 raw
"In the city, consecutive mysterious incidents that cannot be solved by science have occurred. To solve the incidents, they gather three girl detectives possessing special abilities.
Hayama Kotono. She is an orphan living in a convent.
Shirafuji Natuski. She is Kotono’s classmate and a pop idol.
Hijiri Misaki. She is a mysterious girl who fights against nightmares of her previous life.
Which is justice, and which is evil?"
Magical girl anime
Lol the 3D is cheap. You can spot the 3D walls from the normally painted walls a mile away. ^^;
Shading is virtually non existent. Music doesn't fit well. Scenes jump around, continuity is weak.
On the plus side the girls are cute... but their VAs are off.
Kyoushirou to Towa no Sora 01 raw
"Ten years have come and gone since the greatest crisis of Mankind. The story takes place at the symbol of mankind's recovery, Academia, a huge scholastic city.
Ku is a high school girl who enjoys her school life but finds her daily routine to be unfulfilling. She has this recurring dream in which she meets a prince.
This day, Ku meets her dream prince in real life. Just like in her dream, this prince asks her, "Come with me..."", then proceeds to strip her clothes off, then goes off with another girl.
Shoujo.
Pretty boys who run around the school in white horses, giant robots that fade in and out of a parallel dimension, schools being destroyed, shy introverted girl who is the Chosen One, misunderstandings galore, the usual. Beautiful art, smooth animation, gentle music... I have never been so bored. ^^
It's too perfect and too unreal, the girl is too useless, the prince is too superpowered, the bad girls are too typical. Shoujo has never been my cup of tea.
Deltora Quest 01 raw
"Deltora Quest is a series of children’s fantasy books, written by Australian author Emily Rodda. It follows the adventures of three companions, Barda, Lief and Jasmine, as they journey across the magical land of Deltora seeking seven magical jewels that, when combined, will vanquish the evil Shadow Lord."
RPG anime.
Powerful chara designs. Decent animation. Dark intro.
But... no blood! Probably slanted for export, which means the story will be sugar-coated, with no real surprises.
The hero and heroine look very young, contrasting with the ruggedly build of the adults, and most likely the target audience (teens/preteens).
Kyoushirou to Towa no Sora is serialized in Dragon Age, which is about as shounen as it gets.
etc etc
Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! 01 raw
"The story takes place in 2035. Because of the number of children kept on decreasing, many schools are undernumbered and in peril of getting closed. A student transfers to such a lifeless school, “Saio private high school”. What kind of new wind will this very active student, Amamiya Manabi, bring to the school?"
School life of very young girls.
The flying skateboard run was lively, after that it's just yapping and yapping, zzZ. Last time Studio Ufotable (Coyote Ragtime, Futakoi Alternative) managed at least one complete good action-packed episode before to sink into yapping mode.
Himawari!!(2) - 01 raw
Second season.
Kunoici (female ninja) life.
More of the same, with new enemies.
The VA's voices have matured some, but they are still grating my nerves. I'll pass.
SHUFFLE!_MEMORIES_-01 raw
Recap episode. Nothing happens. Bzzt!
>>16 Also, the male lead is a violin-playing harasser who looks exactly like Lelouch.
Manabi Straight - Ichigo Marshmellow in a more moe YKK future. The little girls are really shiny for some reason. I think the japanese term is PUNI or something.
Master of Epic The Animation Age 01 raw
Synopsis: dirty otakus play a RPG with cute girls as avatars, silliness ensues.
RPG in a virtual world.
Intro is catchy. Then, lame TV-style thick "jokes" introduction of the RPG world.
We follow a few characters. First is a damsel in distress saved by a pretty boy. Damsels should NOT go around saying "boku". >_< Yeah yeah, that's supposed to be the joke, I know. Well, I don't find it very funny. Tho it could have been interesting if the pretty boy came out to be a girl... he did blush at one time. But "boku" is more usually used by preteen boys... she may have had a surprise, could have been interesting. Anyway, none of this happened.
Bunch more of scenes of life in the RPG world, the end.
It's not a style, it's not a genre, it's a target demographic. It may be using clichés from shoujo works, but it's meant for boys. If Kannazuki no Miko is anything to go by, it's trying to cash in on the male yuri fans, who are likely to enjoy their shoujo yuri stories.
>>22 Fine. Replace all my comments above where I mention "shoujo" by "shoujo cliches style".
Les Misérables - Shoujo Cosette 01 raw
Anime adaptation of the classic book.
"Cosette is the illegitimate daughter of Fantine and Felix Tholomyès. After Tholomyès abandons Fantine, Fantine leaves Cosette with the Thénardiers at their inn in Montfermeil, paying them to care for her child while she goes to work in the city of Montreuil-sur-Mer. Unbeknownst to Fantine, the Thénardiers mistreat Cosette, forcing her to do chores around the inn."
Historical drama.
Poor little Cosette gets picked on by mean people. Tear-jerker, lessons of Life, etc. For those who like this.
> Anime adaptation of the classic book.
Except that the classic book was, of course, about Jean Valjean and not about moe waifs.
Hidamari Sketch 01 raw
"Yuno has just begun at the school where she always wanted to be, the Yamabuki High School. She lives by herself in an apartment's complex called Hidamari-so, which is right in front of the school. Then, she starts meeting more of the girls who live there."
Artsy anime about art and school.
Yuno gets up, washes, goes to school, meets girls, goes back home, takes a bath, goes to bed, the end... slice of life anime??
Backgrounds are often "artsy" (read: simple).
The series name has "Sketch" in it, I even saw colored pens in the intro, I thought we would get some art lessons... no such luck. Girls babbling about scenery all the episode long... oh wait, was that the art lesson? ^^;
Venus-Versus-Virus 01 raw
Luchia is an exterminator of Virus, demons who eat human’s souls. She's assisted by the gentle, clumsy, psychic girl Sumire. Gentle... until Luchia puts a berserker bullet into her. Then Sumire knows no friends... not even Luchia!
Demons busters lolitas.
First anime this season which is somewhat looking interesting. Not sure the show is gonna keep me interested in the long run, tho... it looks shallow. But at least they put some production values into the show.
Nodame Cantabile 01 raw
Chiaki Shinichi is a piano student, despite he wanted to study to be a conductor. But he's scared of flying so can't go overseas to train. Today he has a fight with his teacher, and gets kicked out of his class. While wandering around, he hears someone playing Beethoven...
Musical shoujo love comedy.
Stuck-up dude meets sloven airhead, comedy ensues.
High production values for the intro.
Okay, that first episode was very watchable... altho I didn't like the guy nor the girl.
Getsumen Toheiki Mina 01 raw
Mina is going to an interview for some sort of news media role. Nothing happens for 10 minutes, then the building and next door stadium is attacked by an enormous flood of purple stuff which eats the baseball team and turns into a giant 3DCG robot baseball player. A black rabbit-woman fights it and is defeated, so a psychic baby turns up and transforms Mina into THE WHITE RABBIT, GETSUMEN TOHEIKI MINA! Also she defeats it.
Okama's character animation looks weird in the very limited animation, but it's alright. The fighting was well-done but short. I felt like I was watching an episode of Keroro Gunsou for some reason.
Concept: A+ Execution: signs look good for episodes without all the setup
PS: The revolver catapult is even larger than the launcher for Dangan X in GaoGaiGar!
Hidamari Sketch 01 raw
SHAFT, instead of making PPD again, makes a healing-type show. They've succeeded so well that this show, even though it has many more lines, feels like less actually happens than in an episode of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. Therefore, I don't really want to watch it any more. It is probably more relaxing than Aria, though.
Also, instead of having SD they have some weird mode where they look like Cave Story sprites. It's terrifying.
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/4093/untitleder9.jpg
This entire episode contained only one 2ch joke. That's how little happened.
Getsumen To Heiki Mina 01 raw
"17-year-old girl Tsuku Mina is hired part-time as an announcer for a popular sports program. One day, just before an important baseball game announcement, she stumbles upon a room with nn evil alien in it..."
High-speed parody of popular shows
Plot and art are simple, but execution is up to part with the first episode of Densha Otoko, very enthralling. Hopefully it'll continue like this.
SHUFFLE MEMORIES 02 raw
Looks like a remix of old stuff with a few scenes added/enhanced to make it a Kaede-only episode. Nothing really new happens, a complete waste of time. For the fan.
Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou 01 raw
In Tokyo, monsters(oni) appear and begin to suck life out of people. Tatsuma and Kyoichi are troublemakers at school, always fighting the bullies and making a mess. While visiting a friend, they discover the Oni menace and decide to defeat it.
Superpowered teenagers with various fighting skills (kendo, wrestling, archery...) go up against Evil.
Horror stuff, with a lot of pannings on the zombies and virtually no pans on the babes. Barf! If I have to sit thru watching a lot of decomposed girls bodies, at least balance it with a decent amount of erotism afterwards, or I won't be able keep my lunch inside very long... The only fanservice there was in this ep was a glance into the girls changing room, and even that was very modest.
Animation: decent. Story: the usual, Good versus Evil. The fights: well done, but I didn't care for who would win. The chara designs: nice. The directing: confusing; too much story crammed in too little time, art over substance.
Strike Witches OAV sub
The world is under attack from mysterious forces. Only magical girls can fight against them. They attach weapons to their own bodies, and fight in the skies, lands, and seas.
Lolitas with propellers on their legs.
Ahaha! :D Too many things wrong to list, it's hilarious.
Okay, one: no googles?
Okay, another: the guns are old-style guns, but the landing gear can retract?
The dialogs are equally non-sequitur, but more painful to listen to. At least with the battles, one can just sit back and enjoy the scenery.
>>36
ROFL, i actually watched it. the mech designs on legs is so stupid that even the animators try to hide it. wtf where they smoking...
it was good for a laugh and 1 min of entertainment.
Yeah, it's silly beyond belief. I sat through it with a big grin plastered all over my face. I wouldn't mind a full length feature, as long as they clean up the story some (too... many... cliches). At least the catgirls didn't go "Nya". Some very nice touches though, especially the sly Return of the Jedi reference. Mecha Musume, cuter than Ewoks!
Nodame Cantabile 01
Promising.
Ahahaha, Manabi Straight 01. I was convinced to watch it, but it was so bad I couldn't finish it. In particular, the part with Manabi riding her flying scooter thing made me cringe and instintively look around to see if anyone could see me watching it. I simply couldn't see any humour, or indeed anything worth watching, in the show.
Of course, it was only afterwards that I really realised it's the first moe-loli-comedy-whatever show I've watched. If that's what you enjoy watching, I'd say it's worth taking a look at. I guess it's an average show of its kind, and this season isn't looking particularly interesting.
MOONLIGHT MILE 01 raw
"Two men are attempting to climb Mt. Everest in winter. One was Saruwatari Gorou, a Japanese, and the other was Jack F. Woodbridge, an American. The two, having succeeded, now gaze at the international space station above them, which was the instant it became their next target."
Realistic-looking sci-fi, in orbit on the ISS, a story of two men with a dream.
Nice, elevating music at the beginning.
Nice 3D, I want one of those 3d meshes to play with!
Characters are not always touching the 3d tho, but this happened rarely.
Ah, mechas. I have a problem with mechas on the Moon, I think it's a bad idea, the legs are too likely to sink down.
So, who are those evil-looking guys on the dark side of the Moon?
I got a kick when the ISS blows up in the ED - ouch! :)
Outlaw Star
Thuggish, dimwitted, unsympathetic protagonist Gene Starwind and his gang of undeveloped, unexplored cardboard cutout characters direct from Central Casting are on a quest for a Cosmic McGuffin and a quick buck, not necessarily in that order.
There's an annoying kid sidekick, a shy android girl, an exotic alien catgirl, and a cold-blooded female assassin, and we have no idea where any of them came from or how they came to be adventuring with the oddly named Gene Starwind, who is a jerk and a thug and a bit stupid, if I didn't already mention that.
The alien catgirl is voiced by Yuko Minamura, and her performance is, as always, superb. To paraphrase Paul Tatara, she is so good, and everything else is so bad, that it's a wonder that this show doesn't reject her like an incompatible skin graft.
The show is set in a science-fantasy, space-opera retro-future right out of a 1940s movie serial, complete with evil sorcerers ("Tao Magicians") and space dragons. Unfortunately, vastly more intellectual effort was put into making the background interesting and engaging than went into making any of the characters engaging or creating a plot with breadth and reach to match the universe in which it's set.
This series was released in 1998, and the comparisons with Cowboy Bebop were immediate, unavoidable, and negative. It seems very odd, as both series are exactly the same length--26 episodes--but in CB it feels like far more happened. CB has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Outlaw Star is almost completely episodic in structure, to the point that it does not much matter what order you see the episodes in.
This is not to say that Outlaw Star is completely without merit. Yuko Minamura, typecast once again as the loud, brash, boastful, reckless young warrior maiden, makes the best of an indifferently written role, and some of the comedy bits are worthy of a smirk or a chuckle. The animation is above average, if not remotely up to Cowboy Bebop's standard.
Ultimately, though, it's all a waste. The moments of genuine amusement or tension are few and far between, especially in the second half of the series, when watching each episode begins to feel like work. The hero is loathsome, most of the characters, both friendly and hostile, are ciphers, and at the end of the day you wonder why you bothered. "Future Hero Next Generation," my ass.
That's neither INSTANT nor late 2006/2007, you know.
Kodai Ouja Kyouryu King 01 raw
Fighting with 3D prehistoric beasts. Use cards for storage of the beasts. Good guys are 3 people with a girl trailing behind. Bad guys are 3 people with a dumb girl as leader... Deja-vu?
Pokemon clone and cards/toys ad.
Dancouga(r) Nova 1 raw
"In the 22nd century, there are no longer any world wars. Instead, small scale wars break out in places. Meanwhile, a large robot appears to protect the weak. Its name is Dancougar Nova."
Robot anime.
A robot pops up out of nowhere, so of course a secret organisation is created to abduct 4 pilots for it. Of course the pilots are the best of the best, like this guy who is a tramp. Of course the pilots get sent to battle immediately in the giant robot to fight. Of course the pilots can pilot the robot perfectly and defeat the enemy. <cough, cough...> Oh well. If one disconnects one's logic circuits when watching it's a pretty ride.
Byousoku 5cm (1st story, Sakura) raw
Takaki had to part from Akari after graduation in elementary school. Despite how they secretly thought about one another, they lose contact and time passes. One day, Takaki decides to take the train all the way to see Akari, despite the heavy snow.
Slice of love.
Beautiful scenery, delicate love story, lot of attention to small details, nicely crafted mini-events... at one point I gave up and ended fastforwarding to see the end. ^^;
I guess watching trains, even pretty ones, is too depressing for me. Also, that girl is mostly always crying...
Rocket Girl 01 raw
A highschool girl, Morita Yukari, visits the Solomon Islands in order to find her lost father. There, she meets a forceful man named Nasuda, of the Solomon Space Agency (SSA), who is interested in her measurements...
Semi-retro scifi jinks.
The beginning is on the longwinded side, the second part is just action. The humor is laid a bit too thick for my taste, but the girl makes cute faces. 3D is somewhat on the cheap side. Hard to make an opinion yet as the charas have barely been introduced.
Ikkitousen Dragon Destiny - 01 raw
Continuation of the Ikkitousen story.
Street fighting with magical power-up elements.
Sonsaku Hakufu doesn't appear? She doesn't ever appear in the ED... Apparently this arc will focus on a bookworm "princess" and her bodyguards and their attempts to train her to defend herself. The beginning was pretty good, with a fight from our old friend Ryomou Shimei. After she's out of the scene, the episode slumped into yapping mode from unfamiliar characters. The princess's voice and mannerisms were annoying and made me sleepy for the rest of the ep. I woke up to watch the hot, steamy stills of the ED.
can we have non raw reviews? cause i don't watch raws :/
I don't see how the presence of text affects whether a show sucks or not.
I'm pretty sure nobody who posts in this thread cares on bit whether you can or can not watch the shows reviewed.
Huh?
