Death Note is shit (89)

I don't want to start any flamewars or whatever, since I don't care that much, but what the fuck is all this hype about Death Note? A few things to note:
o I've only read a chapter or two of the manga
o I've only seen the first episode
It was so repugnant that I couldn't bother to sit through a second one. Some cliche, dumbass main character that there's no way in hell I could ever give a shit about, some random shinigami (a shinigami? In an anime? That's not cliche at all!) who is also a dumbass. And likes apples. Ha ha ha that's so crazy and random! A shinigami eating apples! Ha ha ha! Wait, no, I forgot for a second that I'm not a fourteen year old girl.
And the crux of it all: the fucking scene where he's writing in the Death Note. Dramatic music playing. It's all dark, except for the curiously-bright lamp. OH HOLY SHIT HE'S WRITING NAMES! OH HOLY SHIT RANDOM PEOPLE ARE DYING! All the while he's sitting in his fucking room, by himself, waving the pen around in the air dramatically after he writes names. What the fuck?

The only reason I watched Death Note in the first place was because L is the only male anime character over the age of ~14 that makes me want to start masturbating. And he doesn't even show up until later on.

Does this show get better? Is it all ridiculous bullshit, or just the first episode? Why does everyone like it so much? Can someone post some L hentai? And, finally, can someone recommend me some anime that doesn't involve giant robots, teenagers, schoolgirls, dumbass "romance", sports, tentacle monsters, demons, shinigamis, magic, etc.? Something that somehow manages to avoid the bullshit cliches that make most anime unwatchable. (That's not to say there aren't some good animes that make use of those cliches. I like Evangelion and Gundam.) Only thing I've ever seen that hasn't involved any of that is Haibane Renmei, and it was only thirteen episodes.

personally I don't see the appeal in death note. I know exactly where the story was heading by the 1st volume, not awful but not my cup of tea. Probably the fact that my sister in law is a weeabo DN fangirl just puts me off it completely.

grave of fireflies....oh wait it does have teenagers

Light dies in the end anyway. Just goes to show that evil will never triumph.
