ICHIGO MASHIMARO (29)

I really love this anime. This is the best anime ever made. People that associate this anime with pedophilia are stupid. I relate so much with all the characters.

Are you an eight year old girl?

The artist has done a lot of lolicon art (yes, drawn porn of child characters) prior to drawing Ichigo Mashimaro. The anime/manga would have been a lot of fun, had there not been constant lolicon-fanservice here and there. Children are by no means angels, but the lolicon-fanservice is unnecessary and disturbing when you know very well that those images weren't drawn like that due to lack of skill but due to a certain intent.

random fact : Kiyohiko Azuma (author of Azumanga Daioh) has drawn pron too, before not-pron

It was a lot of fun despite that.
Actually I'd almost say it was better for it.

The thing about Ichigo Mashimaro is, yeah, it's a pedo anime, but it's actually funny. Not the kind of humour that'll appeal to everybody, but it's also not the kind of humour you find in most anime/manga. I think some people get suprised by it, because they expect generic loli show x, with girls running around being moe and coming across exactly the same as every other pedo anime, and then they get this sloooow moving, strangely deadpan, slice-of-life show.

I think it's more like Azumanga or Cromartie than a standard loli series, in the sense that it's one of those weird offbeat comedys that Japan seems to throw out from time to time.

wtf are you guys on, a pedo anime? I didn't noticed any objectionable material but then again i don't watch pedo animes. For those of you who claims it to be pedo NAME SEVERAL SPECIFIC SCENES where it can only be interpreted as pedophilia otherwise STFU pervs.

As was already stated, the creator is a self-professed lolicon artist. It is mostly certainly designed to appeal to pedos. Of course you can make up an excuse for any specific scene, but that's hardly the point.

I like it. Am I a pedo?

It is certainly possible to like without being a pedo. It is also very possible to like it because you are a pedo.

You tell us.

yea, but if you put buncha boys in the same content, it suddenly doesn't make any sense. I know I know, that is a very lame way to find out, but sometimes it helps to just flip the switch and see what the same shit you are watching would look like if you reversed the genders.
ICHIGO MASHIMARO would continue to be funny, but awkward without the moe thing.

I don't think Ichigo Mashimaro is anymore pandering to the lolicon crowd than a show like Chobits is pandering to Moe-obsessed otakus. The truth of the matter is if Ichigo had been written/designed by Clamp, or any female group, the assosciation with lolicon would be far less prevalent.

14-episode-series don't get produced to pander to a single, niche, subculture. A succesful series is able to attract many fans from multiple camps. If Mashimaro is succesful it's because it offers something a bit more universal than doujinshi loli.

If the show hadn't been written by a lolicon author, it would be less associated with lolicon? Who'da thunk?

It wouldn't be the same show, either, so that's not much of a point.

Lolicon is hardly a niche among japanese otaku. It's pretty widely prevalent. And shows most certainly do get produced to pander to otaku subgroupings.

That's not what I suggested by my question of the author's gender, but regardless, it remains that a show like Mashimaro is about as loli-specific as a show like Kamichu! Which is to say, that there are some kawaii, moe, perhaps loli-friendly aesthetic devices in an otherwise mundane and slice-of-life comedy fundamentally based in other ideas than those of loli pornography.

That's not to say that loli-fetishists wouldn't or shouldn't be drawn to the show, but that the show itself is not loli-specific; it has a more universal appeal, and I think Japanese audiences recognize that.

Ichigo Mashimaro makes me laugh, but it also creeps me out sometimes.

agrees
I'm in no way a loli-fetishist (I think o_o) but I still will watch.

Well, I just watched the OVA again, and I still think it's a cute and funny show.

There's a difference between lolicon pornography and the appreciation of moe children, and ichigo is primarily a moe show.

I like the anime. Yeah the OVA rocks but sometimes it could be boring also.

It's weird how they changed Nobue's age for the anime because they didn't want people to see a schoolgirl smoking and drinking beer.

It's terrible, the things they do for television adaptations.

Like in FMP they replaced the North Koreans with fictional ex-soviet states and stuff, and side-stepped the divided China and other alternate-history elements.

22 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-09-14 14:49 ID:LNLrq4jv

I know, and that particular thing, nobody would have cared about it. Except maybe North Korea, but who cares about North Korea ffs...

I think it is moe. I showed excerpts from ep 5 to my therapist and she agreed it actually brought out the disadvantages of nobue-onee-chan's lascivious grooming of ana-chan, bad for ana, miu, and nobue herself. And since me and my therapist spend a lot of time talking about why not to sex children I think it is a good series for me. Except it is very loli moe. But not porn.

24 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-09-19 04:12 ID:k0Sq5mNK

Wow, therapy sessions that involve Ichigo....
Now that's something.

But it's true that people do tend to confuse Moe and porn. There is a distinct difference. It's like the difference between say, a cabaret song routine and a strip-tease. The difference is maybe even bigger, since in most cases, one doesn't actually want to fuck the characters in question, since that would spoil their innocence and bring them displeasure. That paradox is what is appealing. The protection/desire paradox.

The manga is a different story to the show. The manga has more loli moe, but as with all anime adaptations it was toned down when they animated it. The anime itself is not anything to be worried about.

Not every person needed to watch pedo undertoned character designs

I though the series was just plain funny and enjoying to watch, I didn't pay attention to the dreaded "intents" that everyone complains about.
