Hi, I was watching lucky star and I was wondering what tsundere means. And how about moe? Does it mean a cute girl?
tsundere's meaning is confused in Japan.
See Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsundere
This page looks correct so-so.
At first, tsundere is used as "combative character at first, and becomes sweet later", at Japanese BBS "あやしいわーるど@暫定(strange world @ zantei)".
Nowadays, tsundere is also used as "sometimes combative, and sweet" or "combative superficially, but fact of the matter is sweet".
In short, tsundere is a girl who is not obedient to her own romance.
"I, I, I don't wrote this comment for helping you! ...I, I'm just board! Okay!?"
And "moe" means "cute". You are right.
Sometimes this word is known as "sexy". But this is not correct. For example, a kitty is not sexy, but is "moe".
But... Japanese is so difficult... "moe" is not just cute simply...
Forgive my Eng<r>ish. I hope that anyone corrects this comment.
mmm...
"I don't wrote this comment for helping you!"
"This comment is not for helping you!"
Which is suitable?
You know moe has a variation of meanings. It is usually meant as a turn on. When something turns u on that is moe. They dont call a kitty moe but kawaii which means cute =.=
In America...
Moe= Cute
Tsundere= Character who loves someone but always denies it.
In it's simplest form.
When the kitten is so cute that you fall in love with it and want to marry it, that is moe.
I've always looked at the term "moe" to describe an attraction to idiosyncrasies that are common in anime. Examples of these run rampant in Lucky Star.
cute != moe.
You cannot say "this (cute) cup is moe."
>>9
If this were the case, you would just say "this cup is moe". If you want to incorporate both words, you would say "this cup is cute and moe".
I have a hard time imagining how a plain cup could be moe.
It would have to be a very special cup.
I associate it with the kind of emotional character fixation drawn from the idealized forms and specific aesthetics of manga/anime, but I guess the term could be applied to a wide range of passions.
like having a moe for models or maybe Character CDs. I guess these are examples still from the otaku world, but it's an otaku term.
The day you can say you have a moe for gardening, I think the term will have lost its meaning.
Thank you very much all of you. I completely understood both words.
Arigatou gozaimashita!
Tsundere is a bitch that likes you
moe is pedophilia with a twist
Moe = mild retardation
Tsundere = bipolar disorder
>>14
By that equation, then it's safe to say that Raymond in "Rain Man" is like super-moe, right?
He would if he were a 12-years old girl.
Alright Name famous tsundere anime and games chararacters!!
Princess Leia
Tohsaka Rin from Fate/Stay Night is a tsundere character.
>>18 Wow yes Princess Leia. She loved Solo but didn't confess it.
Great! More more more!
how about the Prince from the Prince of Persia series? He seemed like a regular badass who just wanted to pick flowers in a meadow somewhere...
>>22 Failure
I'll tell you what moe is. You know that feeling women get, that causes them to become all squealy when they see a cute baby or a puppy? That is what japanese men called moe when they began experiencing that feeling towards 2D characters.
Louise from zero no <something つ> , she is way too much tsundere
Zero no Tsukaima =D Tsundere~~
Haruhi Suzumiya (The ultimate tsundere god)
Akane Tendo (Ranma 1/2... waaaaay back there)
Moe? =Moetan
(But, Moetan's at the extreme loli moe end of the spectrum. Pastel Ink's outfit... is... loli-moe borderline creepy.)
Haruhi is a tough one. In the first book she clearly follows the pattern, but in subsequent books she's back to normal again, so I wouldn't classify her as tsundere at all anymore. In fact I don't recall a single sign of her acknowledging Kyon between the end of book one and the beginning of book 9.

Bad example. I watched FSN expecting Rin to be a tsundere character. She's not. Maybe in the games, but few of us are going to play them. It appears to me that people confuse Rin's no-nonsense attitude and the respect she acquires for Emiya as a sign of hot/cold behavior. It's just friendship.
>>31
The game is much better. Much like how people who have played Tsukihime say the animu doesn't exist, same applies for FSN.
lol at the person who says tsundere=bipolar. i can't stand tsundere (or my damn bipolar). just get over yourselves and admit you like the person! gah, so frustrating.
>>32
Too true.
I didn't write this post for you idiot!
I.. i... was just posting! Think nothing of it!
I didn't make you lunch! I was .. making myself lunch .. and accidentally made too much! As if I would make lunch for you, baka baka baka baka baka!!
Yeah, but I wish to the gods mirror-moon would finish with their translation!!!
In the games she's totally tsundere.
She even has the twin tails. There's no way Rin isn't tsundere.
Haven't yet seen the animu, though.
I think Shirou just has a natural ability of turning every girl he associates with tsundere (or yandere) with his altruistic blockheadedness.
True!
I thought "kawaii" meant cute. If both "moe" and "kawaii" mean cute...which is more appropriate to use? >>;
As for "tsundere" I'm still lost on what it truly means... >>;
Shana from Shakugan no Shana's also a tsundere. Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina's one too, and so is Asuna Kagurazaka from Negima, and Nagi Sanzen'in from Hayate.
I dunno, Nagi is borderline. She loved the guy from day one, so IMO that isn't tsundere as there wasn't enough tsun before the dere.
It's Japan, theres probably 100 words for cute.
In japan,many people find moe in an awkward email from old father,a big dog threatened by a cat,like do in Izumi Segawa
Of course,these moe are very diferent each other,but are equally moe for jananese
So how about that mascot for Nara. That thing is cute and creepy at the same time, and I want to club it to death with an iron bar and then sympathise with it.
Sometimes but not most of the time Tsunderes are identified by having twintails in there hair...might not but all the time but Kagami, Arisugawa(too some extent), Nagi Sanzen'in and the Tsundere chick from the World God only knows have em.
you guys are worse than all of four-chan put together and most importantly moe is like a fetish and tsundere is where a girl (or guy) likes someone but doesn't ever show it kawaii means cute so your right there
Yes, I think that's right... in a nutshell. -_-;
For a more detailed definition of tsundere (as well as examples of characters) go here: http://anime.osiristeam.net/defining/definition-what-is-tsundere/
From urbandictionary: "'Moe' means be attracted to a specific character or its specific partial element and to have a favor feeling toward it. 'Moe' suggests the condition of being infatuated with one character or thing and implies an image of someone burning with desire."
but isnt charas like saber from fate stay night and echo from pandora hearts moe? but there is something like tsundere whit them to... and mion from higurashi is tsundere right?
The cutest tsundere character is Kagami Hiiragi from lucky star and she also fits on the lolicon cathegory.
Other than the moe look how is a high school person to be lolicon?
>>52
When she's claimed to be a high schooler but doesn't look any older than ten.
Same as when someone's claimed to be seven hundred years old but doesn't look any older than ten.
Someone may look like a kid but they are legally the age in school
Lucky Star uses a rounded art style (I think it's called 'puni plush' or something), so that's probably what you're talking about--it's not necessarily 'lolicon' or whatever the term is... We're all so conditioned by twenty- and thirty-somethings playing high-schoolers in movies, that we expect them to look that way in real life, too! Actually, there are a LOT of high schoolers that look REALLY 'young' compared to what you might expect...
I have never thought about it that way so I think less like a pedo
I think the closest English approximation to moe would be adorable.
That is a good compromise like people want to protect the adorable
Japanese Annime girl movie.
