i just finished lucky star and while the anime itself was enjoyable, it had no real plot to speak of. that aside, the ending was so abrupt. i thought they'd at least show the whole event and them graduating or something (if you saw it, you'll know what i'm talking about).
then i got to thinking about some of the other animes i watched and then i realized they sucked. some don't even finish and end on a high note (suzuka, kare kano, gunslinger girl, ichigo100% etc).
others' endings are just stupid (best example would be NGE, sadly).
some anime that i thought ended well were elfen lied, flcl, kimi ga nozomu eien, and saikano (i know there's more but i'll think of them later)
so i'd like to hear what animes actually have a good ending (good endings don't necessarily mean happy endings)
I didn't like the series all that much overall, but I found that Jigoku Shoujo had a really satisfying ending plot. Maybe it's just because the 'send one person to hell each episode' gimmick was getting very tired and it was a relief to have it switch to more conventional storytelling.
Baccano!, Boogiepop Phantom and Haibane Renmei were some other series that were great throughout, but I thought wrapped things up particularly well, too.
the reason why most anime like lucky star, kare kano ASO have a weird ending is bcoz it is Based on a manga that is not finished when the anime is being shown
[this is the case with atleast 85% of all anime]
the reason why some anime like
Elfen lied are good is bcoz its made for television
its not based on something
the reason why hentaigame made into anime are good
is bcoz there is usualy very little real story in these games
but the little there is is often ok...and all the pretty girls make u sometime forget about the story so... its all good
Seconded about Boogiepop Phantom and Haibane Renmei having closure
Too bad Big O had a terrible ending making the second season worse
Too bad Kino is incomplete we have more books to do another series
There are more independent source OVAs and movies than you realize
Elfen Lied was based on a ongoing manga at the time it aired on TV
Tsukihime would like to have a word with you about not having plot
Elfen Lied had a manga but it was Based of the tv show not the other way around[like it usualy is]
no the realy is not that many independent source oav or movies out there
Most are based on Novels, manga, games or Products
sure there is gundam and some random other robot shows that make it on their own but they have a their special..^thing^robots^.. that bring them together
of corz there are some hentaigames that try a little extra
tsukihime is one of them its not very hentai to begin with but it is a hentai game so sure

You probably didn't get the ending. That's OK, it was pretty intentionally obscure, but the ending did have a point, and there was a reason it ended where it did. The ending song was a hint.
As for other shows, Honey & Clover is probably the single best ending you'll ever see.
>>6
well yeah, i already re-checked the ending and STILL don't get the hint.
but hey, it probably will just get another season
i hope so, i enjoyed it. (probably thanks to the fact i'm such a geek to get all the jokes)
anyway, while i was watching it, i really liked honey and clover.
was one of the better series i've seen, only got to the (middle?) of the second season though. gotta finish that one day
Elfen Lied manga was Weekly Jump Shonen June 2002 to November 2005
Elfen Lied anime with 13 aired episodes July 25 to October 17 2004
Wiki and ANN seemed to know more about the anime you claim to like
It's not an earth-shatteringly clever ending or anything, but I liked it. The ending song is from Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer, which is the big hint. In that movie, the characters are stuck in a dream where they are forever preparing for a school festival, because that is what makes one of them desires. The actual festival is never shown in that movie, either.
It's sort of a nostalgic ending about how friendship and working together is (or, perhaps, was) more important than the final result, without shoving that moral in your face, and I like it a lot like that. There is going to be an OVA, but I'd really rather keep the current ending as it is.
There were also some Beautiful Dreamer references in the school festival episode of Haruhi, by the way.
Most anime with original scenario are good I think...
In recent one Gurren Lagann was amazing I think...
In old ones: Gundam, Dagwon, GaoGaiGar Final, Zoids, etc
etc cos I can't remember them...
I only named Mecha cos most of them are original...
Some people might argue Zoids has original version but the anime is way different so...
Gankutsuou had quite a good ending. It didn't have too many crazy plot twists but remained exciting for the last few episodes. I also quite liked the end of Red Garden, although it did seem that the main characters were unrealistically happy about it
I think a satisfying ending has more to do with getting the tone of the last few episodes right and not dragging anything it out, as opposed to completely wrapping everything up.
I've got to agree very few anime do have particularly satisfying endings. I've seen too many sci-fi/fantasy things where at the end it goes all silly and the main character turns out to have secretly been god (or something similar) all along. Which is quite a shock the first time, but after a while it wears thin. It's amazing now I come to think of it how few anime had endings that really stuck in my mind and how often the things I have fondest memories of have some of the least satisfying endings.
Last Exile had a fantastic ending... Love Hina had closure, though I would have perferred it to end at the Christmas Movie. Umm... Fullmetal Alchemist had an ending.
I heard that the Kare Kano anime had a pretty random ending.... I began the manga first and tried the anime, didn't like it. The manga does take the story to some really unexpected circumstances...
Most people do believe Last Exile had a very rushed ending however
I quite liked the ending from Serial Experiments, although i'm possibly still coming down off my underground-oldschool high.. very satisfying wrap-up of the major loose ends while still leaving enough for debate. I also second Gurren Lagann.
Having said that, i don't think it's essential for an anime to have a clear ending if the rest of the season makes up for it. Lucky Star was brilliant the whole way through, and i was determined to enjoy the final episode whether i understood it or not (although >>9 thanks for the tip, i'll be sure to look that up).
>>13 Really? The only complaint I felt the ending is that Alex basically did nothing for the last few episodes, just standing their tied up. I really wished he could have done more
I liked how Haibane Renmei finished. Though.. I suppose I would have liked to find out what existed outside the wall. I guess the whole point is that we don't know. I thought the ending was poignant. That's the best I can describe it. I connected quite well with the series as a whole because I understood the emotions..
ooo i agree gurren lagann is really good ending(why couldnt they leave out the stuff after the credits? that ruined it :( )
Chrono crusade i liked alot, full moon wa sagashite ended good.
I remember scrapped princess being good, though i kinda forget the ending a little(though i remember it being good.
Kage kare mamoru had one of the really bad ending, wtf was that all about?
>>17 haibane renmei i liked too
>>14 yeah serial experiments lain had great ending! though i thought it was really sad at the end, felt sorry for lain.
Irrseponcible Captain Tylor had a fantastic ending. I cried the first time I saw it.
I actually liked the ending of Ergo Proxy. I think there was no other way for it to end, and if they mad a sequel it would just drag on.
I think that the ending given to Death Note has been one of the bests... Seeing a lot of other series where they give a rush end, i enjoy the ending of Death Note
Gunbuster/diebuster both have the claim of the best anime endings of all time
Perfect Blue could have used a better ending rather than some ward
Honey and Clover S1 had a perfect ending for what it was trying to do.
Angel's Egg could not have ended any other way than innocence lost
what about Endless Waltz???
Endless Waltz ended fine otherwise you could always read the manga
but the relationship between Heero and Relena is quite like admiration than romance to me...
Would you have rather hoped a Tomino kill them all ending instead?
You should count your blessing when someone else writes the ending
Cowboy Bebop, one of anime's best endings ever.
Ergo Proxy tried to cram six episodes with the last three episodes
>>33
i agree. that was one of the most rushed endings ever, and completely interupted the pace the show had until then.
Ergo Proxy should have stuck to the episodic random places instead
>best example would be NGE, sadly
Yeah, the TV series ending sucked, but I thought the End of Evangelion movie was awesome!
Some people rather liked the scribble ending over the boring movie
