I think that Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is very well animated. I really love the lighting effects and how the animation is the quality it is.

I wouldn't call Shion particularly well animated. It's reasonably well drawn and the story is good if not predictable, but the animation isn't particularly noteworthy.

It's not "reasonably well drawn", it's pretty damn shoddy. It's pretty blatantly clear that they didn't have much of an budget at any point.

It's a good story, but don't let that colour your perceptions of the animation.
