Thanks for your corrections and honest advice, Bookworm.
As you pointed out implicitly, I am not good at English.

But I like Les Mise. It is hard for me to read it in English.
There are many unknown words on a line! It took an hour to read
one forth of a page to me! Who want to run away from Les Mise
is me!!

To read Les Mise is not a lesson of learning English but a
suffering for me. I am very busy because I am very active 2
channeler. So I limit it an hour to read Les Mise a week!

I hope to get a English book into me. I wanted to memorize
Bible. But I have fall into a delusion to memorize Les Mise...

What are you searching for in a book?
Do you want to read a book that depicts English Society? American?
A book that explores English morals and values, culture?
Or any English book, simply to improve your English?
Or for enjoyment?
I will recommend books, tell me what your purpose is for reading first however.

>What are you searching for in a book?

I need a guiding light to improve my English and my life.
And I have no occasion to use English except for posting
BBSs or reading Cisco documents privately. So I can choose
the book to memorize with a bit vanity.

I hope you create a thread of Anne Vs Abbott.

>A book that explores English morals and values, culture?

What I need is only reading and writing skills.
But because I am a middle aged man, I hope to get some
ideals which lead me while I learn English. I like
kill-two-birds-with-one-stone solutions.

Ah I see. Well, I suggest 'The Immoralist', and also books by Dostoevsky, particularly 'Crime and Punishment' and 'The Brothers Karamazov'. However it might be difficult to get at the true nature of his meaning if you are not familiar with some of the nuances of English. However, if you can read Les Miserables, I am sure you will be perfectly able to understand him.
Also, I recommend 'The Master and Margharita' and a few of Kafka's short stories, in particular 'The Trial'.

These books deal with various philosophical concerns, and are besides excellent literature. Also, they will do as well as any for the betterment of your English. I enjoyed them personally a great deal. Good luck!

I like that opening animation of Syoujyo Cosset.
In the falling snow Valjean reach his hand for Cosset
to hand his love from Myriel to her...white breathes
are unforgettable images! It's beautiful!!

All of us must pay our price so we are Odysseus who had
plundered the hallowed heights of Troy.

But Valjean's journey looks like apostles'.

I feel many inspirations came from Homer into Hugo.
