I just realized how confusing that must be, and in thinking about it from that perspective nearly got it wrong myself.

I'm glad you enjoyed Les Miserables if it took you that long to read it, although I guess you would have stopped after a couple of years if you didn't like it.

Actually it took 17 years for Hugo to write his book, that's what he meant.
