We all know that lately game companies are running out of/too lazy to come up with original ideas for games and have been chugging remakes and sequels.
I say they should remake Super Smash TV
>>209
I just didn't like it. I thought it was "meh". This comes from someone who LOVED the VI. And seeing people blabbering about FFVII all day long when it was, well, "mostly okay", made me hate it. Also OLOL FFVII IS THE FIRST FF BECUZ THE PLAYSTATION IS THE FIRST CONSOLE EVER AMIRITE? Fucking all great-public-marketing and console starting to mix with computer games (not in the right way) started at that time.
FFVII had the materia system for it, and that's about it. It wasn't that great. Get over it. FFVIII, however cliche'd and short it was, had better writing and a more interesting universe.
You're right that FFVII is kind of over-hyped. Despite that it was a good game. It had a really engaging story, great characters, and of course the gameplay and graphics was revolutionary. Credit where it is deserved, y'know?
FFVIII was good, and original (first time to ever try portray photo-realistic humans in a RPG, I believe), but for whatever reason, albeit the confusing plot or the junction system, it just wasn't popular, and only in recent years have people come to realise what a great game it was.
And, I see what your getting at with that little "FFVII IS THE FIRST FF BUCUZ..." thing, but for alot of people it was the first game, Europe didn't get any FF games until VII came along, because Square just didn't see it as being profitable to release those earlier RPGs.
>>213-214 I suppose I can see your points of view about the game. It can be really annoying when you come accross ignorance, especially about your favourite series or pasttime. FFVII did make a lot of great leaps for the series, including upped production values, more modern settings, magic customization, a plot Hideo Kojima could have written, etc... But it did lack some things that made VI great, like that fantastic 20 minute ending.
(yeah, i'd have been pissed if I'd seen some fav lines taken out of a remake, >>212 . They left "You spoony bard!" in IV for just that reason.)
I like VIII, more than I did when I first played it, but You have to admit the plot of "LOL, I FORGOT EVERYTHING THAT IS IMPORTANT UNTIL AFTER IT BECOMES RELEVANT FOR SHOCK VALUE" is a little contrived. I mean, you don't learn why radio transmissions don't work until the end of the game - AND ANY JERK OFF THE STREET COULD HAVE OLD YOU.
/rant.
AZURE DREAMS I wish the maker of that game makes a remake I really really love that game!!!!!!!!!
yeah, that game is one of the first i got for my PSX. good times.
I did like FFVIII and except the remake of the dance scene for the PS2, nothing else was made from FFVIII. Nonetheless, I'd say a remake of FFVIII would be worth trying although I HATE the damn junction system especially for stocking magic. Sure, Refining magic out of items is cool and quick but nonetheless, it was a pain to refill the spells to keep your stats high sometimes by the DRAW command, also, the object that were not available (except cheat) through pocketstation would have been great to have in the PS1 version although on my PC version, i can get those with no great hassle.
Also, Ultimecia's background should have been MUCH MUCH more integrated and develloped instead of a LOLOLOLOLOL I'M EVIL AND I POSSESS PEOPLE LOLOL. I would have truly enjoy seeing the R=U theory in the game. That would have been IMO a great twist in the plot with all the time paradoxes and all...
tl;dr, I'd give a shot for the remake of FFVIII, let alone an animation movie to see how thing would turn out. (Yes, I did saw Dead Fantasy)

I highly suggest you read the Faq on Time/Ultimecia on GameFAQs. It makes a lot of sense, and in fact, you'd see that Ultimecia has a background, mostly through Edea. Even though I'm all for tragedies and such, the R=U theory just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I'm replaying the game right now, and I did pick some things up... but there are a lot of more subtle stuff happening that you might miss on your first play, although it's all under your eyes.
Simply put: Ultimecia know what is going to happen all along (events from the past from her POV, so probably well documented in the future), but she stills has no choice but try to escape her fate; in doing so, she dooms herself.

FFVII didn't bring "upped production values". The fact that it had cinematics and 3D is more likely the result of it being on a new and more powerful system, isn't it? FFVI was quite huge for a SNES game, on a production point of view. It had the materia system - which is great - but customisation already was in FFs (job system? espers?). The modern setting... well the Empire in VI was quite modern already (they have mechas, tanks, trains...), and also in older titles. FF since a long time have incoporated at least some steampunk elements.
And nope, nobody could have told you about the radio waves except in Esthar, but they basically removed themselves from the face of the world. They are the ones who disrupted radio waves to prevent Adel from communicating with the outside. Also, the static in the TV screen in Timber.. if you're attentive, you can guess that it is related to something evil ("Bring me back I am alive I will never let you forget me", quite creepy), especially if you noticed that the dates the radios stopped working and the end of the second Witch War match.
The only bad writing in this game in my opinion is the fact that the TC happens way too fast and abruptly. I liked the orphanage part. But I agree that this is merely opinion.
Okay, let's stop the derailing on FFVIII and my rants on FFVII, okay?
Back to topic: I wish Sonic 3 & Knuckles (when you comboed the cartridges) had a remake, KEEPING IT A 2D scroller as Sonic games should have stayed, with classic Sonic characters and storyline, but with improved graphics with all the modern effect and image post-treatment our modern systems can do. Maybe incorporating characters in a 3D/2D way, as seen on New SMB on DS. Basically a lifting of the game. No change to the awesome level design.
Master of Magic. Not many people have heard of the game, but it has its small cult following of the people that have played it. I think the company that made it went kaputt though...
Wild Guns
didn't they make a remake of that already? Wild Arms: Alter Code F
ugh, sorry never mind. i read like ass.
As much as I love the Wild ARMs series, the first one really really sucked in my opinion. It has nothing to do with the graphics, I can play games with bad graphics. I can't even remember why I didn't like the game, I just remember hating it to no end.
However, for some reason I believe that had I played the remake instead, I probably would haveenjoyed it more. I personally haven't played Alter Code F, but something about it makes me want to play it, despite hating the original.
i say earthbound cause of it song i love it but didnt understand the story
...Well, sometimes moving from place to place might not have been obvious, but the overall story should have been pretty easy to figure out.
Anyway, I would like a remake for Earthbound as well, but I'm afraid that it might lose it's charm. - especially considering that they can't even release it to VC because of all the songs/references/audio samples they didn't pay for and don't want to get sued for NOW in this litigious society.
river city ransom. and not the shitty gba version.
The Tales series...
I'm all for a Master of magic remake. I still have the old floppy disk around here somewhere... but I thought Master of Orion was the remake for master of magic. Still it would be nice to see it up and running on modern standard.
I'll have alot of arguements against this, but most definitly Halo 1, and 2 they were good games with good story lines. But the graphics were lousy, and add the Halo 3 weapons, equipment, and better physics.

Truck of fail.
That said, I'd play a revamped Deus Ex any day.
Ever played Age of Wonder? It had similar gameplay, and is considered a sort of spiritual sequel by fans.
Lords of Magic was of similar vein, though the combat system was more of a RTS system.
And Disciples is similar, except its battle which is more RPG based.
Each of the games I listed are fun, but yeah, a real honest-to-goodness remake of Master of Magic would definitely be fuckwin!

AoW II was an awesome game and is still located on my hard drive to this day. It featured "parallel turn mode" for LAN multiplayer, which was at the same time hilarious, strategic and fun. Basically it was still turn-based except all the turns happened at once, and the first to react were the first served, so you had to pick in which order you'd give your orders VERY carefully. I once had a battle of portal locks/dispels until mana exhaustion so the guy couldn't come out of the dark world with his gazillion troops stocked one portal and 6 squares away from my main town. Then I managed to smuggle an upgraded dragon across the ocean and burnt 4 of his main cities before he could even react. One of my best memories of multiplayer games of that style, and I'm a huge HoMM fan.
battle toads
Lately I'm having constant urges to play Might & Magic VI again. But I think I'm going to be too disappointed by its graphics which in my memories aren't so bad.
Dungeon Keeper!
Carmageddon, the original games made by stainless were insanely awesome.
See its the graphics that make me want to play the games every now and then.
Rainbow Six 3 PC
It has awful AI. And that's a HUGE problem considering that it's such a huge part of the game (it is squad based after all... if it was just a solo shooter, like halo, it wouldn't really matter to me, but in R6 you kinda need good friendly AI).
UBI Just fucked it all up. And they made it so hard to mod, there's barely any community for the game (R63 would have been massively improved by the mod community if Ubi hadn't taken a dump on UE2).
Quest 64!
I'm playing a ROM of the game now, fun shit.
the music of the overworld is easy to get stuck in your head. and then it WON'T GET OUT
I would really like to see a version of the first and second SC's remade with the Chaos Theory formula (with waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy amped up ai and difficulty/map and gameplay complexity though)... but that's just a day dream I guess.
I remember that there was a custom map of Smash TV on Warcraft III I played before.
Metroid 1, using the Prime engine.
I know they already remade it, but I think it'd be so much better in the Prime engine.
I've got a huge list on this.
MechWarrior (any of the series, but I lean towards the 4th)
Killing Floor (I know, I know is recent. But it would look sweet on the Unreal Engine 3)
Half Life 1 (HL: Source doesn't count, and Black Mesa Source is pretty much vaporware, so I'm putting it here)
Quake 1 (honest to god remake, not a graphical mod)
Shogo
Sin
Messiah
Rainbow Six
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic- The Sith Lords
Fucking WIZARDS AND WARRIORS for the NES
It's posts like this that make me imagine everyone on the internet screaming into their computer as they post on anonymous discussion boards.
(Stop it.)
FF7!!!
>!!!
Ass.
PARASITE EVE!1!!1!!1!!!!1!!!1111
Nox.
Not necessarily a remake, a sequel would be fine too.
Bio Menace. I always thought Snake was a much cooler character than Duke, but we never got any more of him.
parasite eve hell yah!
and chrono trigger
>>252
That mother fucker is using all the exclamation points! They've been on ration since the war!
How about an update of Hideo Kojima's "Snatcher"?
>>258
I'd kill for a HD Remake, or sequel to, either Snatcher or Policenauts. Then again, that probably won't happen unless Kojima and Konami get bored of riding the Metal Gear Solid gravy train.
>>256
Chrono Trigger was remade for the DS some time ago.
A Metroid Prime-like Mega Man X, with less auto-aim and more difficult enemies.
Atomic Runner (Chelnov)
I would like to do this in 3d & Full-HD.
These days, many Japanese games are remade even though
Many people hate those remade games.
I am also sick of them.
It seems they remake games in order to get more money easily.
There are still many games that we cannot buy now except for
Japanese games.
I rather prefer buying those masterpieces even if they are just resale.

oops...
that's important thing, so I said twice...
haha, cute.
I think that remaking games isn't necessarily a bad thing, as there are many cool old game that you can't play anymore, but if they're just remaking them for money then yes, that sucks.
I'd rather have an honest-to-God remake. Not just a port to a different system. Basically I want the same game on a new/updated engine.
Jet Moto
Lotus 3. In a nutshell, it's a auto racing game which is practically impossible to lose. I always found it beautiful and relaxing.
