Games you regret buying. (308)

Discuss all of the games you regret buying.

Currently, I regret buying Dungeons and Dragons Tactics for the PSP. The multiplayer is lame, which is the very core of D&D. It's basically a watered down version of the game that you play on your own. Wow. Amazing.

Alundra 2

Little did I know, it was shit...

260 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-19 15:01 ID:9Fdkv3o8

I kind of regret buying Super Smash Brother Brawl. I hardly ever play it, but every time I do I keep thinking about how much more fun Melee was.

Dont you mean Super Smash Bros?

262 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-23 15:12 ID:Heaven

that's getting picky

263 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-24 01:12 ID:HpdMQRQH

Halo Wars. I gave in because of how amazing all of my friends said it was.

It's a piece of shit, only a little fun with multiplayer.

Supreme commander

games are too long, and my cpu can't take it capn!

265 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-25 10:36 ID:NGcdqDPX

It was shit. Even DooM is much more enjoyable.

Phantom Brave. As fun as the gameplay is, I can't stand the characters.

267 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-29 08:31 ID:QGW17btC

What. PB had great characters.

One game I regret buying was Rascal for PS1. That game blew.

268 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-29 18:45 ID:0NpGFUFt

I liked Phantom Brave's characters but couldn't stand the gameplay.

269 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-30 15:46 ID:J37zulK7

I liked phantom brave, but where Disgaea's number crunching became familiar territory after a while, PB threw a lot of numbers at you a lot faster. I was much happier with the game after I bought the strategy guide, and they explained a way to get an uber weapon in like 3 hours, thus saving the game for me. This, however, showed the games one and only flaw:

Marona was a permanent character on the battlefield, and with a weapon that let her have 150Million turns, the game became a bit of a breeze.

this was fixed in Makai Kingdom.

but, meh, I still love each of NIS's games for their individual charms (EXCEPT LA PUCELLE)

270 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-03-31 22:14 ID:R7RcKqBl

I don't so much REGRET buying La Pucelle, but let's just say I'm glad it's over. The SUPER LONG BATTLE ANIMATIONS destroyed me. I mean, anyone who had the patience to ignore the game, work up their characters to level WTF in the dark world and kill all those UBER demons to get the secret endings, well, I take my hat off to them (and also forward psychiatric services to their address)

271 Name: Talentless Troll : 2009-04-01 03:40 ID:PdogXgmL

Marona was the reason I regret buying the game. So fucking annoying

272 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-04-01 06:17 ID:31n7vn53

yeah, I hate it when you don't give a crap about the main characters. Really kills the motivation.

For example, I've started playing Baiten Kaitos (however the heck you spell it) and I almost have to force myself to play the game. I mean, the game is fine and all, the maps are beautiful, but the voices sound like they were recorded in a metal box, the faces look horrible, and the main character Kalas deserves a cockpunch every time he opens his mouth. not to mention the fact that everytime i seem to get anywhere, it feels like I'm only hastening the world's destruction - usually game programmers try and pull that shit JUST before it's almost too late.

Monster Hunter

I love the game and all but it didn't catch on in NA and the servers were shut down. If it weren't for the fact that it has no online capability anymore I wouldn't regret buying it, wish it came out on pc then I'd have made a server to play it on.

274 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-04-16 13:03 ID:St+wQEZL

I should replay La Pucelle (I didn't get that much through it anyway) in PCSX2 with turbo (disabling fps limiting) to get through battles. The game was almost as unplayable without turbo as Pokemon.

275 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-04-21 19:38 ID:4BVq0s9j

Gears of War 2

Some neat new moves in the game but multiplayer turns those moves into crap. Also cheaters.

276 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-05-06 22:22 ID:1e4JDUfC

Resident Evil 5.

Huge disappointment.

277 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-10-17 04:48 ID:/Ex7V1go

Didn't buy it, but good god do I regret playing Wonder Momo. I was in a daze while I played it, because I hadn't slept in a long time, but even still... ugh. I don't even remember where I played it.

278 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-10-18 19:07 ID:2f9B8tG2

Every turok game.

Every. Single. One.

They always look good, so good that you get lulled into buying one again... and then...

BAM. Shit sucks.

Spec Ops games. Why the fuck did I ever even try these out? Complete horse shit in every way: graphics, gameplay, guns, sounds, music, ai....

PS2 Tenchu games (wrath of heaven, fatal shadows). I'll admit I like them a little bit, but they just didn't meet the standards of other games of their era. Some of the gameplay mechanics were really wonky and some important ones even occasionally didn't work (or would malfunction and cause the character to do something to make them get spotted or generally fuck the game up) at random times, especially when you needed them most (for instance, jumping and grabbing cliff edges, etc), graphics were sub-par, sounds were low quality...

Red Faction... that damn evil scientist you meet in the offices ruins the whole thing. And the PC version doesn't even have bots! wtf Also, the miners never survive, so you don't get any teamplay... and the end boss is way too hard. I could never beat her without cheats. Her difficulty was totally out of proportion with the rest of the game.

Red Faction 2: fails in every way. Guns, sounds, graphics, gameplay (repetitive, slow, bland in general), storyline, characters... Complete cop-out/cash-in by the studio that made the original. It's so pretentious and the teamplay is pointless and boring and the geomod thing only works on a few select areas, whereas in the first it worked almost everywhere...

MGS2: The torture scene ruined the game in harder modes. I almost broke my thumb off pounding the triangle button ffs. And some of the bosses, especially fatman (who was the lamest boss in the game) were far too difficult on extreme mode (which is the only really good mode for replay imo, since the regular gaurd ai is much better and more enjoyable assuming you've already got a good handle on the game). I do recommend getting it though, (the substance version only), since there are some cool things about it, and on normal it's still pretty fun, and the vr missions and snake tales make up for any lameness in the main game imo.

Drawn to Life. It was okay, but not worth buying.

Made me turn to piracy. Karma turned full swing as a result, because I was playing so many games, I didn't get hardly any joy out of them.

Now I'm back to buying. Amusingly, I actually want to at least rent "the next chapter" of Drawn to Life.

Dokapon Journey

It's just... not the same...

281 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2009-12-31 01:35 ID:zePd27g9

272, you probably just don't quite understand how to play Baten Kaitos which is understandable since it introduced many unique aspects and themes. Try reading the manual and restarting the game and it'll likely end up a favorite of yours.

Unreal Tournament 3. I mean I had fun playing it, but I was expecting something different. It felt to much like Gears of War (I know its by the same company) and not much like UT. Of course I had been hoping it would be an updated UT99.

None of the subsequent UTs have ever even come close to the awesomeness of UT99.

Now don't get me wrong, it is a decent and fun game, but I was expecting something else.

283 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-01-18 05:32 ID:/rr84Fpy

Scribblenauts. I'll give it some credit, it's the best Jetpack and Fishing Pole simulator I've ever played.

284 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-01-18 16:16 ID:r+2/ta2T

Just purchased "Defender of the Crown" for the Nes. ugh. at least it was only 6 bucks. It's not that it's impossible, but it's just so horrible. I'd rather play Abadox or Astyanax without cheating than play that game.

285 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-01-19 15:00 ID:7Ue8YTBJ

Spore. I got really hyped about it before it came out, but it was complete shit.

286 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-01-19 15:32 ID:r+2/ta2T

yeah, while I've never played it myself, they pretty much showed you the entire game in the press demos. There was literally nothing else to show, just a longer playtime.

287 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-10 14:58 ID:7Ue8YTBJ

Tropico 3. I got the special Steam sale for $13.60, not worth a single penny.

288 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-17 14:49 ID:RWyr9WNQ

Phantasy Star Universe. Such shit.

289 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-21 07:18 ID:sU7D/ixZ

Castle of Magic.

Phantasy Star Universe (Though, it's a great anime...)

290 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-21 07:20 ID:IowKxjAo

What's wrong with Populous?

291 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-21 09:55 ID:sU7D/ixZ

It was the SNES version. Didn't have the guide book, and the internet was vague as hell.

Couldn't play it nor the crappy RPG that I got with it.
A pox on Populous.

292 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-23 00:24 ID:fyntXDuF

I like Quest 64... I've never finished it, though...

I regret buying Kingdom Hearts 300-Some-Odd Days for the DS. I think that franchise has lost its charm...

293 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-02-23 16:31 ID:r+2/ta2T

yeah, that can happens inevitably after a monster hit.

Also, Quest 64 was a charming game. You just needed a guide to tell you where all those spirits were.

And I also agree with SNES populous. I'm 26 and I STILL don't know how that damned game works...

294 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-03-01 02:32 ID:q9zleP89

Tales of the Abyss.

Never understood why Tales were so great and what not.
A typical JRPG with familiar and even boring elements that repeat in every asswipe of a typical JRPG.

295 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-03-05 01:37 ID:wf9dKxhh

Haze. I bought it on pre-order and kept the faith in the face of mounting evidence that it might be utter shit. It was WAY WORSE. The final line from the main villain caused a facepalm to rival the Chilean earthquake. Fuck.

296 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-03-07 14:50 ID:9LG9+mQ1

I bought Myst (it cost less than a blank CD), but the 320x200 graphics looks hopelessly tiny on my 1920x1080 screen.

297 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-03-09 05:40 ID:xR2YMGh8

I'm surprised it still runs.

298 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-03-25 00:38 ID:AQgbtLDZ

Assasins Creed 2

(Actually, it was a Windows port. It ran in a window, but the developers forgot to scale up the pictures.)

300 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-03-28 02:02 ID:r0wys30f

Spiderman 3

301 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-04-19 02:10 ID:7l+nSn0z

Agreed, it was aweful.

302 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2010-04-19 02:10 ID:7l+nSn0z

Tales of monkey island, pitiful addition to the series.

This is really taking far too long. I say we all register accounts, mature them, and all hit the same board within the same 10 minutes. There'll be uproar.
SBAllen hasn't had to deal with any major shit since he took over. It's time we inducted him into the real world.
