I leafed through this at my local shop the other day. The art took a little getting used to, but I liked the fact that the couple gets together in the first chapter and moves on from there. Has anyone read it? Are there any good manga/anime about established couples? I'm a little weary of the usual will they/won't they dance.
I got a scanlation from back in the day. I really wanna pick up the book though, it's totally awesome.
> Are there any good manga/anime about established couples?
Kare Kano comes to mind, as it often does.
I just bought it, and it is in fact totally awesome.
I also just now happened to stumble over it in the local book store, and picked it up. Having read one chapter, I can say with certainty that it does in fact rock like few other things.
Also, the art is awesome.
I also think that the art is awesome, it's really unique. A change from all the big-eyed manga style that's used for almost every manga.
The naïvistic style is closer both to western comic (it keeps remind me of some fairly alternative comic, but I just can't remember which one), and more mainstream manga (the kind of stuff that would run in a newspaper, not the manga-mag fare most otaku read).
The style isn't simple because of a lack of skill in the author, either - he has a great sense of composition, for instance, which shows in a lot of the big panels.
I could see it being made into a popular live action TV series after the manga is complete.
Who's the publishing company?
Nevermind, I see it's DelRey...
My favourite parts so far are the bit with the giraffe and when he tells her he wants to kiss her. The chapter about the fight had some shaded pages. Were those originally in color?
> Were those originally in color?
Most likely. I like to have access to cheap manga as much as anyone, but it's a little bit sad that it often means I'll never see the original coloured pages. The same is true in Japan too if you're only reading the collected volumes, though. Colour pages mostly only exist in the magazines.
Also, my favourite bits were all the wonderful one-liners: "20 percent more than everyone else" and "I feel sorry for Negishi-san", and so on. None of which make any sense to anyone who hasn't read it.

Signed.
I loved the coloured pages in my NGE manga tankobon!
Getting back to style, I found it interesting that Hoshino is the only one always drawn with closed-line (for lack of a better term) eyes. Everyone else's have the more standard open space on the sides or are simple dots/lines. It gives him an intense look that really makes him stand out.
The best one-liner: "As I watched you enjoying yourself, my honest spirit was set on fire."
Picked this up today on yall's recommendation - this is quality stuff!
We haven't had sex yet.

We haven't had sex yet.
I've thought about doing it with you. Every day.

I love this puppy love manga
It's real honest love!!!
Love Roma ended in this month's Afternoon. It was a pretty surprising move. There wasn't even an announcement in last month's issue.
32 chapters in total. The fifth (and probably last) volume has been scheduled for December 22nd.
And we still have to wait until January for the second to be translated. I'm sad that it's only 5 volumes, but I'm also kind of happy he didn't drag it on into the 20s, or some length where a decline in quality is highly probable. :/
I need some tea.
Ah, well. At least the odds of this getting a full release here are pretty good... unlike my poor Aria. :(
What's Aria, precious?
When I first saw it, I thought immediately of Bryan Lee O'Malley's work. Maybe this was something along the lines you were thinking of?

That's not it, because I haven't see it before, but it is a good match.

That's a pretty... thorough rating system. o_O
I notice the selections are pretty arbitary, and "Happy Lesson" is in both 7+ and 17+ (where it's alone). Some are empty, too.
Second volume is out this week! I haven't even had time to read my copy yet before posting this.
I finally got my hands on volume 2!
Read half of it, and it's still awesome! The play chapter is awesome. Best line: "Can I hold you?"
Also: Vol 2 features a somewhat unreadable link to Minoru Toyoda's homepage!

It has lots of great stuff, including some of his older weirdass comics, including Serial, which shows up in Love Roma in the newspaper in track 8: http://members.edogawa.home.ne.jp/poo1971/webcomic/serial/serial-t.htm
Best non-line: When Hoshino talks to Negishi about what he saw in the erotic magazine, in a completely earnest manner.
Good luck, Sub-character alliance!
PS. Best line: "I'll apologize by killing myself!" (with chopsticks)
Ooh, that's a strong contender.
I like how this manga makes every line short and memorable. It fits very well with the art and how some characters have this bug-eyed stare that kinda reminds me Mike Allred's work.
Yay! Me and Waha aren't alone!
Volume 3 is out! The "Next Step" chapter rocks. Best line: "I would be healthier if you let me feel your boob!"
Volume 3 was great stuff. I want vol.4 :(((
just got vol.3 today! can't wait to read it.
I finally got it, and it was everything one could wish for.

Love Roma gets a big podcast love-in to itself. ;_;
Your words mean nothing!
Volume 5 doesn't come out until Summer 2007.
What the hell Del Rey.

Seriously, WTF. Bad enough that volume 4 was delayed from summer to fall. Speaking of which, there's less quotable one-liners this time. ;_; I don't want to be too spoilery, but the Sugimoto/Keisuke chapter was a nice followup to their earlier story. It was also an eye opener to see Hoshino in conflict with himself and his feelings. Yoko's personality seems to be softening a bit from her relationship with Tsukahara.
Go Dai Ninja!
I'll be damned, it looks like Love Roma 5 is out.
I should go get it :o
Gah, I am falling behind!
I have volume 5, but I'm scared to read the last chapter. I don't want it to end. ;_; Anyone wanna form a suicide club?
Volume 5: never thought I'd get a boner by reading Love Roma.
This was a good manga. I can't wait for Toyoda's next work.
