Should developers work regular hours? (11)

I'm a web developer. I work at a company with around 100 employees. I started about 3 months ago and I'm very good at my job. I make lots of people happy on a regular basis because I get stuff done quickly and reliably. I come in at 8 and leave at 5 with an hour lunch. I work after hours when I have a vision or brainstorm and need to pound something out or if I need to talk to one of our offices in another time-zone.

My question to the community is this: How many "personal hours" or "flex hours" do you take in a week and is your boss OK with that?

I spend the majority of my week working on projects that have been logged in a project managment system online. I work on my personal laptop because the one they gave me is ghetto. I'm the only developer so I don't have to talk to anyone to get my work done. Can't I do this from home? What do you think is a reasonable in-office schedule for someone in my position?

I don't think you should work from home.
Reason being is your employer needs to see you working, or else he might assume you are just sitting at home collecting a paycheck for nothing.

It's better to be hardly working in the office than working hard at home.

I typically work 9-5 with no lunch.

The boss occasionally complains if I get in at 9:15 instead of 9:00, to which I usually reply "ok, well I'll just start leaving at 5 on the dot then" which shuts the idiot up pretty quickly.

not to mention comfort zone interferance:- day time soaps, phonesales, interbutts etc...
if you always work in the office, people can believe you are a harder worker than those that dont

Yes work in an office.

Work should be in a separate place than home, that way your home doesn't become the place of stress.
