Actually, the term "weeaboo" came from the Perry Bible Fellowship in an unrelated context. It eventually was adopted as the replacement term for "wapanese".

Ultimately, I don't think anyone will, on their death bed, wish they'd tried fewer hobbies and made fun of more people on the internet.
I have a lot of fun at anime conventions, LARPs, Historical Renactments and other events that get mocked online. And I don't care. I meet girls, get exercise, and make costumes. I've made friendships and networked - I got my current job through a guy from my LARP group.
Trolls, we call them. They praise violent destruction because they don't know what beauty is. Pitiful. They envy those who are able to enjoy what they are too stupid to indulge in.

If you actually take whats being said on the internet as serious than you deserve to be called weeaboo.
However, the origination comes from the fact that some people blindly assume japan is such a great place and dont realise that they are simply glorifying somewhere else as their means to compensate for the fact that they dont like their own lives or home area.

Dont take it too seriously when you are called weeaboo. Just look at who you are and wonder if you are going overboard.
For example, certain people on youtube tend to lack the ability to distinguish myth from reality.
Make sure you arent that kind of person.
The funny thing is most of 4chan, which was at first a board solely to discuss Asian subculture, calls anime fans "weeaboo."
Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with watching anime; it's a helluva lot better than MOST Western art (note I said "MOST"). And now with Toonami dead, there's no reason to watch CN.
But there are the people who take anime TOO seriously and actually try imitating (not cosplaying, but imitating) acts seen on tv. For example, that one 10 year old who died for burying himself in sand. Also, this one girl I talked to thought she could perform "alchemy" as seen on Full Metal Alchemist. I told her that it's just a cartoon and there's no possible way you could form something by slapping your hand on the ground, after spending minutes drawing a circle.

Static backgrounds, scenes with nothing more than talking heads, shitty color-shading. Yeah that's way better than the hand drawn Warner Brothers, Disney and Hannah-Barbara cartoons. Before fag shit like Pokemon got popular amongst kids creating a total weabooization of our shows, western animation was infinitely superior.

Hey. Anime has grown a lot in the past decade, the most recent and notable example being Miyazaki's creations. Yes I have just opened myself up to a potentially life threatening amount of insults. Oh well.

I'm not saying there isn't good anime out there. Just trying to point out that, generally speaking, Western animation has always been vastly superior to Japanese animation. Ask any art critic or college professor. Miyazaki is great, but do his films hold up to The Little Mermaid, Fievel, or Looney Toons?
Western animation and Japanese animation are vastly different. I don't see how it's possible to compare the two.

as much as i would like to agree with >>11 on saying japanese is better than western, it is subjective. for me, almost nothing is better than japanese, anime but that doesn't mean that i think for everybody it is better. it has to be realized that saying one thing is better than another is subjective, and even definitions change depending on how people use it, who is using it in what situation, etc...
for example: most use weeaboo as an insult, but it could be said between anime fans as a common word.... similar to how "nigger" is different depending on who says it.
Weeaboo came into use because Snacks hated the term wapanese, so he filtered it to weeaboo on /b/. He also made it autokick/ban in #4chan at the same time.
PBF Image Macro came before word filter. I know this because I'm the first one I know of to use the "Guy raising eyebrow" in the weeaboo comic.
