don't want to gamble? son, the stock markets are institutionalized gambling houses.

If you have a hobby or interest that means you have an eye for valuable stuff other people might underprice, you might be able to pick up cheap stuff from the local craigslist and sell it on ebay.

Discover a new fetish, find girls who will be in porn, make site dedicated to new fetish, rake in money from people who didn't know this was their fetish until they heard of your site. Dominate the market in submarine orgies or something like that.

Poker for making money sucks, ESPECIALLY in internet, where you have absolutely no garantees. In best case, its just a test of luck.
By the way, its really cool idea about fetishes, but there can be lots of troubles with laws.

You're actually wrong, playing poker for money especially on the internet works well. But you have to play mathematically and know what you do. It's morally debatable because you're mining people who are in for "luck" (and you'd be surprised how some of them carry lots'o'monies) - and due to the easiness factor of the internet, the seemingly zero-risk, etc. people are more willing to "give it a shot", so there are lots of golden-egg laying hens over there.

Of course, keep in mind that it brings you nothing for your future - you're not building a career, nevermind social stuff, etc. But meh, for a few years, why not. Some friends of mine actually live a life of leasure in an exotic country through this.

Have you ever actually played poker? In practice, poker is infinitely closer to chess than it is to roulette. Of course there's luck involved in the short-term, but in reality it only serves the winning players by giving the losing players false hope and a reason to gamble with their money. Most of which will eventually end up in the better players' pockets. (And the cardroom of course.)

I'd say that almost anyone with a level head and the willingness to put in the hours not only into actually playing poker, but studying it and improving their game should be able to make a decent living off poker as it stands now. It's still hard work and you have to be in it for the long run, but it sure as hell beats slaving your ass off nine to five in my book.

Then again, if you have no clue about probability, psychology, etc. you might be better off sticking with submarine porn.

I learned theory, I know about odds, outs, starting % of success for different kinds of cards depending on number of players, probability of appearing a card, and I played many games (on play money), and there was really a lot of absolutely crazy games, when 2, even 3 players had pairs on the start (it is very often in this room, one of most popular rooms) but probability of that is very low, bad hands got what they need in later rounds, so on... Yes, sometimes it can be, but not everytime! Room wants more players to involve their money. It is more % of luck, than skills. And, no guarantees of random generation. Random numbers generators are rigged, because it is really possible. It is only a way to spend time, but earning some real money constantly - no.
