Sorry to be commenting on a post so far back but I just found this thread.
I always considered a "Japanophile" to be someone who, like a xenophile does with foreign cultures in general, enjoys Japanese culture.
I don't know, it's difficult for me to define where I would fit (weeaboo, otaku, Japanophile, et cetera) because I like Japanese culture and have been studying Japanese for several years. In addition to this I do enjoy anime and manga, but I wouldn't lose my interest in Japan without these. However, my interest in anime does take up quite a bit of time for me...

I sincerely dislike yaoi and I'm female. I don't know if I qualify as an otaku, but I would say that I do because of how much I do enjoy anime and manga. To each his/her own, right? I don't find yaoi thrilling in the least.
