Unfortunately it costs $95. For a "first" visual novel you should buy Planetarian ($10), or Kanon ($30, and it's considered a baptism for otaku). The Kanon translation is coming in February or so.
If you're going to splurge for this, the translation will be finished within a few months probably...
If you want to try a couple (legal) free visual novels, you can download some from the insani site. Most of their translations are short, but it should give you a good idea of what to expect from a visual novel.

Thanks for translating Shuffle!. I have the game, have played with walkthrough, and even though I have a little knowledge of Japanese, but still couldn't understand thoroughly... This translation project is a very good news to me ^^. I pray that the translation patch would be finished as soon as possible.

Be patient, man. Translating a visual novel isn't something you do in one afternoon.

Sure, but I'd like to point out that the remaining 5% is the hardest part.
Unless their estimator is experienced at this, they're probably 70% done, not 95%. People underestimate that last "5%" badly.

Try some of the demos at insani.org after that you can actually buy some. I recommend buying Ever17, I heard it's pretty good.
Oh and of the demos at insani, try Fate/Stay Night first.
I highly recommend Planetarian.

I played it with the patch, menus look great, and it's a good translation, too bad it's only the first two chapters that are translated. there's also a little bug with the place of the letters, a lot of letters are 2 far away from eachotherand some overlap eachother. well, at least it's readable. I'd say keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to the next patch.

The text was wierdly spaced with the default font, however, changing that to the gothic font fixed that problem. Also, for some reason, every line started with "u" and had a "v" at the end.
Besides that, there were a few typos, but it's all fine. Good job on that patch so far.
About the "u" and the "v", that probably means you don't have non-unicode programs set to Japanese.
Well, I simply used Applocale since i though it would end fine since the game is translated in and all that. I'll try rebooting in jap mode.

How long has there been a virus on the site? It tried to load when i visited using Internet Explorer. My Anti-Virus went OMFG air raid siren but it killed it.

I think they're fixing some kind of problem in the font since most computers have weird fonts in Shuffle's alpha patch. I bought the game for $95 because I saw this english patch...
So does anyone know who long the editing is going to take for the English Patch

I'm really anticipating the final patch for it. I've tried so many different programs to get the text translated I've given up. So I decided to do what I do best: Play the game without getting it translated. Hell, I completed the Card Captor Sakura and the chobits games on the GBA in Japanese. This is the same just with random characters instead of Japanese (my computer won't put Japanese text in for some reason. All i get is a load of gibberish).
Well, I did it. I completed Kaede's storyline. All with the help of logic (and a pen and paper)

What kind of translation are we talking about? Is all the Japanese ripped out into a text file or something? If so, I could lend a hand.
I mean, I could help if the text was just on screen, or if there was text+audio, but it would be more work and slightly harder.

Peter, you need to set up Japanese for non-Unicode programs.

I dunno about good, the closest I've gotten is the GBA Love Hina game with the translation patch. Not that great.
Does Comic Party Portable on the PSP count as anime related? I liked it a lot.

I wish we'd get more fan-translations for visual novels; it's really a neat medium. It's a real pity it hasn't caught on outside of Japan.
There are a few western game translators out there, I do remember seeing Hourglass of Summer / Natsuiro no Sunadokei in English. The real shame is that the really, really good visual novels never get picked up so we have to wait for fans to take years to do the work.

There was progress by a game translation group known as GAMEPATCH, run by Helkin. Unfortunately something has went wrong with the domain (www.gamepatch.se) and the site has been wiped off the web. The translation that is out (The alpha patch) is incomplete and only goes to the 3rd Day. Anyone please post information about the current status of the patch or any new developments.

I have it I guess. A version of it at least. No big deal really, and has a lot of typing errors too. As far as that goes, you're better off without it.
