going to japan after graduation (68)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2007-05-21 22:32 ID:TKG6To+e

hi all. i need your suggestions/opinions/advices for the following situation. i am basically what you'd call a nerd, i like manga and anime, and i have been teased and made fun of being of that too. people can be cruel.

but i have been planning to go to japan as soon as i graduate since i started high school, and i will graduate next year, so i am really excited.

i have about $4000 in my savings account, and i plan to get a job when i get there, so i won't run out of money. then for once i will not be teased and made fun of just because i like what i like.

i am thinking about staying in the tokyo area, because it is the capital and i should find jobs easily. it's going to be hard, but i believe that i can do it.

i can't wait till i'm out of this hell hole. have any of you had similar situations? also, are there cheap apartments for rent for people like me? thanks

>Well, at least i know manners! we aren't polite as Japanese all the time, you westerners are plain rude, lol

im going out on a limb here and guessing that middle eastern manners wont be the same as japanese manners, just like western manners are different.

In what ways???

You guys are really stressing the negative. I'm sure there's more you could tell this guy.

from >>7's description, it seems like he's had a negative experience.

As societal problems go, the US is certainly not on top. Japan generally ranks higher than the US on indexes of national quality of life, whatever that means.

Shelf life of a hypocrite wapanese living in Japan is about 2 months before they return home, realizing that the great Hide Matsumoto is dead and no Japanese will have sex with them.

Trollish response but seconded.

OP will not be embraced-- he'll feel even more like an outsider.

Hait!
May i ask, what are you graduating from?
bach. degree? diploma? high school?

i also wanna go or live in Japan if i could...after my graduation from university.

If you're planned to live in Tokyo, it's gonna be a taugh life there...it's one of the most expensive city in the world... T_T

many foreigners prefer/should to live/choose the Kotobuki district of Yokohama. It's around 3000 yen per/night for self accomodation. It's about +-25usd i think...
Me also will consider that...
but, only of my dreams comes true...(to step my foot in Japan) ^_^

Anyway, you're annoko or ottoko? (male or female)
Maata meeru surune!
sayonara! ^_-
Good Luck!

Another wapanese type thinking they will find in Japan a holy land of acceptance. Otaku in Japan are not exactly the most respected or admired part of society. Any gaijin otaku is not exactly going to be embraced with open arms upon arriving in Japan.

Don't ruin that poor guy's dreams unless you were born there yourself, but if you were and everyone you know there thinks like this then go ahead and ruin that faggot's dream.

I think that OP-san should prepare himself to some degree for a transition into an entirely different culture. I know a lot of people say this is overrated and that in this day and age you can get around anywhere, but I don't think he should go there thinking it'll be lala land.

Beware that first impressions do matter. They're extremely racist in terms of preferential treatment to those of their own nationality. They won't accept you immediately. It is not because they're bastards but it's the cultural differences that make it so. Small things like blowing your nose in a train is seen as extremely rude. It's just scary thinking about what things you could do wrong without knowing it.

OP-san Don't worry The Japanese will accept you with open arms. ^_^ You will find true happiness in japan! The japanese girls wear maid outfits and love gaijin!!!

I support you >>1! I want to go too! It's because of the "hell-hole" part in your thread, nobody takes you seriously. You sound like a blinded weeaboo. Japan is ugly and has problems too. I love Japan for it's ugly architecture and social problems!!

I want to go experience its ugly post-modern re-enforced concrete, burst-economic bubble, subcultural cesspool, utterly beautiful, language, culture, television.

I figure if I'm gonna be a hikki, I might as well be a hikki in Japan. But I doubt I'll ever make it to the airport, so >>1, go on ahead. I'll catch up later... maybe.

If you make it known that you're an anime otaku while you're there, you'll definitely get made fun of. ._.

Why? Why shouldn't he go to Japan, the country of his interests? If there's something he should fight with himself, or learn about himself, he can do it there. It probably is the best place for him, or anyone who has a dying passion for another place, to do that. This is the idea behind "pilgrimage" isn't it? It's a quest, and a good one.

Because he makes himself out to sound like a typical weaboo, the type that assumes that Japan is a super advamced land of milk and honey where they will find acceptance for their abnormal "otakuness". If he really does go assuming that Japan is this wonderful mystical place then the reality could break him pretty fast.

>>63

Still, don't you think he should go and find out for himself?
It's worth doing, travel is good.

65 Name: Anonymous : 2007-07-07 13:46 ID:AT2+e0Yn

I've told myself to move to Japan if my current relationship for some reason ends, just for the sake of putting everything upside down. Because of the globalisation, it's difficult for me to feel attached to a specific place, and I'm sure it'd be a totally new experience, either way. I can't decide what to do in life, so any job would do, and that attitude should make it fairly easy to get along somehow.

Japanese don't seem very interested in integrating foreigners in their society, so >>1 will probably have a hard time, but it might be worth it.

66 Name: Anonymous : 2007-07-07 15:48 ID:HG3EeTtd

Well, to the extend that >>1 has never been integrated to begin with, he might as well try being voluntarily unintegrated for a reason.

I know a weeaboo who hates Japanese food. He's into really spicy food.
