Concerned about my height. (42)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-03 01:14 ID:Nlc37JF7

I will be turning 17 in late august and I'm 5'7" tall. I'm rather concerned about my height; it bothers me to the point where I'm incapable of concentrating on others things.

My father is around 5'10" and my mother is around 5'5". Based on this info I'm thinking I might be done growing. I have done some research and basically there are 2 ways to get taller: Limb Lengthening Surgery (LLS) and Human Growth Hormone (HGH) treatments. I won't be considering LLS for the time being as it is quite risky and very expensive (in the 100 000$+ area).

Is it too late for me to start using HGH? Is it effective? To be honest, I'd be willing to delay college for a maximum of 2 years in order to collect enough money to get HGH injections.

So please, internet strangers, tell what I should do to get taller. If I stay at 5'7" I'll probably fall into a deep depression.

wait.....so, you feel like you're too short?

o_o why does it bother you that you're 5'7''?

to me, thats like an entire heads height taller! i'd say you're average height.

how tall do you want to be?

OP here.

My height bothers me because I'm a guy, and as far as I know, all girls want tall guys. It pisses me off that no matter how hard I try to better myself, no matter how good my grades are at school, girls will ignore me if I'm short. Example: one of my loser friends (who is 6 feet tall) manages to get a girlfriend whenever he wants while I, the guy who works his ass off in school and everywhere else, gets IGNORED by every girl I care to approach.

Sorry if that sounded like a rant; I'm just very frustrated.

As for how tall I want to be: I'd be happy anywhere over 5'9.5". I don't think I'm asking for much, really.

=[

if it makes you feel better, none of the guys i've dated were very tall. Ha, my ex was 5'7''. =O.

lol, all girls want tall guys. ouch. i dont' think thats true =P. in my book, height doesn't really matter. its if we get along. and understand eachother. thats what i believe counts =O. i personally don't really bother considering height whenever i crush on someone D=.

well, i hope you feel better. oh, and pleaaaase don't delay college. =/.

Don't worry about it yet, you'll stop growing up until ~22, the rate of growth is likely to decrease after 18 but you'll grow more.

>>Sorry if that sounded like a rant; I'm just very frustrated.

Maybe its your attitude and not your height which scares the girls away.
Be positive about yourself! It's lame and old, but true: Nobody will love you or pay attention to you as long as you don't care about and love yourself.

Don't listen to these idiots telling you height doesn't matter. It does.

I'm 5"11 and went to 6"4 using shoes bought from a site like this:

http://www.walktallshoes.com/

Get a pair that adds 4" to your height and you will go from 5"7 to 5"11. You will then be normal height. Good luck.

Hey man I am 5'4" and there ain't much I can do about it. If people do not like you because you are 5'7", fuck'em. I hate most of the human race anyway so my height does not bother me.

Also, the HGH does not work if you older. You can have you legs broken and extended but I hear that is painful as a mother fucker.

11 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-03 14:10 ID:vF1p9BDc

(Just realized that site only does up to 2.75 inches. Look for a better place. I can't remember the site name where I got mine from. 4 inches is what you want - about as far as you can stretch it without getting uncomfortable).

>>9 If I'd ever meet a guy with shoes like that, I would dump him.
Not because he's short.
But because he obviously has no self-confident and so shallow, he actually buys damn expensive shoes to look taller.
You're kidding right?
That's like push-up and fake eyelashes and all this crap women use to impress men. It makes no sense! Either you end up with a partner who's shallow OR you actually meet someone you like and then there's dishonesty between you from the very beginning (great start).

>>12 Hey honey, if you've got a problem with those shoes, then tell all of your friends to stop wearing high heels. If not, continue being a hypocritical cunt. I know a couple where the guy purposely wears those type of shoes to be taller than his girl. It just looks better. I believe Nicholas Sarkozy even has a pair in order to be taller than Carla Bruni.

I wear the shoes because it's fun to be tall. Everyone knows that I do. Women have no problem with it. Again to the original poster: buy a pair of "walk-tall" type shoes and become of a normal height. Walk down the street, finally at the same level as everyone else. Trust me on this, it will fix 99% of all your problems.

You will feel a hundred times better. Don't keep the fact you wear them some bottled up secret; but do get them.

The purpose of high heels is not to look taller.

(thread tl;dr)
As a girl, a guy's height doesn't matter much to me. I'm also 5'0", though, so keep that in mind. As far as I'm concerned, I'd prefer shorter guys because I don't have to crane my neck. It's personality and confidence that get points in my book.

17 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-04 03:59 ID:HrwWRego

Another 5'4" guy here. Seriously, 5'7" is fine.

18 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-04 10:37 ID:TJ9Vj69W

>>13 First of all, listen to >>14.
I personally never wear high heels, I wear combat boots, best shoes ever! Water proof, good looking, protecting and you can walk miles in them without any problems.

My friends can do whatever they want to, it doesn't mean I have to agree with it - I'm such a tolerant person, you know :3

Using Nicholas Sarkozy as a reference how to behave is always a bad idea.

19 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-04 12:01 ID:vF1p9BDc

i wear huge platform shoes sometimes for fun. i can see where he's coming from, i bet the cunts here saying that short people shouldnt get elevating shoes would be happy for them to break their bones and suffer years of agony in order to stretch 1" for an operation

what you have to remember m8 is that most people want to see you do worse than them, if you get to normal height they are threatened

""never take any relationship advice from women"", they turn into lying cunts about this (same as the penis size debate), just ask yourself how often do you see a short guy with a tall woman? NEVER, you will notice when you get taller that guys finally give you respect and women finally notice you.

i heard that all the stars of hollywood use em btw

wow that was long

20 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-04 12:07 ID:vF1p9BDc

o yea and one more thing, as someone who's seen shoes like these irl, you dont nessecarily have to get 4" as he said, something more mild like 2.5" would still put you at almost 5"10 and nobody would EVER notice it. the height difference when you took em off would be v mild too

21 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-04 12:15 ID:vF1p9BDc

lol oh and a message to the short women here, it's easier for you girls, cause you are perceived as "cute" or "petite" and you can always throw on some heels. you also get to date the whole height range of guys from short to tall. for men being short is often a suicidal thing and iv had a lot of short friends in my life to confirm this, believe me if you don't have the personality to pull off being short it is a living nightmare, so fuck off! elevated shoes for men = leveling the playing field!

5'7" really isnt that bad for a guy i mean i cant see validating horribly expensive surgery when your only 1 in or so shorter than the average person, i mean maybe, just maybe if your 5' 2" or something

Fuck you all and your shitty measurment system. Can't you use the metric system like any reasonable person on earth so we can know what you're talking about?

5"7 one inch below average? Stop pissing all over the guy, the average height for young men is about 5"11-6"0. Everyone must tower over him.

eg

Germany 180.3 cm (5' 11") 167 cm (5' 6") 18–19 2005 [24][25]
Sweden 181.3 cm (5' 11.3") 166.8 cm (5' 5.7") 25–34 Measured.[59] 2005 [60]
U.S. 178.2 cm (5' 10.2") 164.1 cm (5' 4.6") White Americans, 20–39 Measured 1999–2002 [65]

Listen to this guy. I can't believe I never thought of it myself. What an easy and cheap solution for such a devastating problem in life. Might buy a pair myself just to be even taller, lul

27 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-05 15:19 ID:TJ9Vj69W

>>26 It's not a "solution", it's the easy way out. OPs problem isn't his height but his self confidence.

29 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-06 05:22 ID:SakOD7Pw

>>28 I'm not >>27 but rather than being an easy way out it is a false solution, no matter how tall this guy is, he would still have his stunted sense of self worth.

A happy healthy person inside doesn't stake their existence or happiness on something so trivial as being a few inches short. This guy will just find something else to pick himself apart over, buying some shoes isn't going to help him deal with his real problem.

you moron.. you're just spewing out rhetoric that you heard off the latest feel-good TV series. it IS his height, not some "deeper problem." you've clearly never seen what short people have to go through.

let me tell you a story, i used to have a friend who was ugly in high school. he was suicidal, depressed, on the verge of ending it all constantly. as he grew up he started to get attractive, and grew out of that phase, he also lost his "baby fat" and now he's one of the most confident people i know, it was all down to his looks

these specific problems ARE about just that.. what they are

buy the shoes, it's only $70. if anyone mentions the fact you wear them, show you're confident enough to not give a fuck by laughing in their face.

32 Name: Anonymous : 2008-07-07 09:26 ID:SakOD7Pw

>>31 I haven't watched TV in a long time, and I lol at your assumptions. I personally will leave my insults at the door though.

I'm not saying don't buy shoes, I mean people use things to improve their appearance all the time, By all means, he should do it.

The problem here is this:

>>I'll probably fall into a deep depression.

Lets have a reality check, this guy is not disfigured, he's a couple of inches short, he is nothing that justifies him possibly becoming severely depressed (as far as we know). It's natural to be unhapy with our percieved faults, but we draw the line there, we don't become depressed over them.

This guy should really just work towards being comfortable with himself, shoes or no shoes. There are worse things that could happen, and you don't want to be broken if/when they do.

i agree totally wif >>29 !!! good for u!
as for others who only reckon that true self-esteem n happiness can only b satisfied by pretending to urself, then ur just w-r-o-n-g. "HGH injections" <--- isn't tat just pretending to urself that ur a tall guy when in actual fact, ur not? r u sure that he'll b truly happy that he's "tall" after that? though he may fool every other person around him, he can't really fool himself in the end.
n so, therefore, i don't see how he can gain genuine confidence n self-esteem, not to mention, true happiness by doing that.
who agrees?
