Koikoi7_01 raw: take all the most corny high-school shounen cliches, mix them and serve them at mad speed and in no special order. The chara designs are too close to the manga - they copied the errors too (the eyes are drawn too close, for one thing.)
KARAS 01 RAW:
When law enforcement agents from multiple dimensions meet in Tokyo, the result is gonna be messy. Also, beware of the Kappa.
Dark dogfights, dark fighters, dark secrets.
Zettai Shonen_01 raw:
In the boondocks, life is boring for our young hero. The main action is provided by the dog and the cats roaming about. Until one day, when strange occurrences start to happen.
Looks interesting. Washed out colors, babes are cute, artwork and animation is good, plot is mysterious enough.
GENCO show! GENCO show!
I'm checking it out for sure.
Lol why did they choose GENCO as name?
That name's so close to GONZO...
A homage maybe?
403
I wouldn't think so, but on the other hand, the opening credits for Kujibiki Unbalance lists "G*N*O" as the production company.
The Snow Queen 1 RAW:
Some kind of "Heidi of the Alps" remake? In the mountains boondocks, life is not boring for our very young, brave, always smiling heroine. She has all kinds of minor problems she has to solve that I could care less about...... huh, the chara design put me off, the "full of good intentions" spiel put me off, the overly melodramatic scenery put me off... I couldn't watch more than a few parts here and there.
Prolly a "old style" shojo title, aimed at very young viewers. I'll pass.
By ep 3, all the wotakus have agreed that Zettai Shounen is a semi-ero-anime disguised as a children's anime.
No seriously, what were they thinking? It's a good show, of course, but what's with the... oh never mind.
>>44
I have only seen 1-2 so far but "Zettai Shounen is a semi-ero-anime" doesn't make sense to me. It looks more like a coming-of-age anime to me, with a little scifi/mystery thrown in. The boy hasn't shown any interest to girls so far, more the contrary. If there is nudity/erotism/sex in 3, well that's fine, that's also part of a coming-of-age plot.
Ok I watched ep3. Not a single bit of nudity. >>44 is a joke.
If they allowed nudity at that time on NHK I'll tell you that the next Ghibli movie will be directed by Quentin Tarantino.
What I mean is that it's got interesting camera angles. And they focus on weird places. I'm not the only one saying it's at least a little weird for a kid's show, there were some similar comments on some other blogs, like for example this:
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/zgok0079/20050604#p1 or http://d.hatena.ne.jp/zgok0079/20050521

And of course, the 2ch official thread here:
http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/anime/1117453810/
All talking about Zettai shounen being ero in some-way or another...
Of course at it's core the story is a fantasy/sci-fi/coming of age thing, but what's with all the other weird stuff?
Of course it's weird. It's about aliens/skyfishes/invisible thingies that watch you without you knowing it.
Of course the angles are weird. It's the aliens' viewpoints! That's the whole point.
Of course the aliens' views are used. It gives an atmosphere to what would otherwise be a boring daily routine in a boring remote neighborhood.
You are really, really making me want to watch this now.
Any translations yet?
dragosmore said he's doing it for some group or another (heaven knows what), and Faith/Shi-fa said they'll be doing it too.
Ain't seeing any sign of them yet, hope they com esoon...
And well, it being from the alien's point of view is a good idea, I guess. I just can't shake off this slightly ero vibe from the show, ...
Viewpoints from below. That has soooo many possibilities to explore. I doubt they'd go so far as to have any panty shots though. No way. Now that's too much.
I wouldn't mind to see some nudity, they are some babes in there. The show has been remarkably tame so far. I suspect they are holding out the nudity card for additional shock value in a later episode. Right now it's just tease.
ep 4:

http://s05.imagehost.org/1191/zettai_shounen3.jpg <- very clearly, panchira
stolen from 2chan. But anyway, what the hell??
>>52
Big deal, a fully clothed girl. Those seem very tame to me.
And, knowing 2chan, those frames most likely appear very fast and one has to go frame by frame to even notice it.
Methinks that those claiming it's ero are actually hoping, wishing and longing for the show to turn into a porn fest. :/
They should go back to watch KoiKoi7.
Never heard of a panty shot on an 8:00 show on NHK though...
Tell me why should I care about NHK's execs opinion.

All right all right ALL RIGHT!
Should I watch this show?
The first episode looked like the first episode of something I like. I just wish the whole show would look like the opening, which is the most stylish thing ever.
Also, it gets bonus points for the Prince Igor ringtone.
On the basis solely of the intriguing nature of this discussion, I went and watched the first two episodes, and my verdict is in: this one is very watchable, indeed.
I don't get the ero-vibe that others have mentioned... but I have to say, I'm getting a slightly creepy feeling that this one may take a turn for the darker, later on - like Narutaru did.
It's this summer's Summer Series.
Also, they had me at the first episode title - "The Beginning of a Depressing and Strange Summer".

As usual half the thread is talking about ero tendencies...
Re-reading the theead, I realized that some of the replies may have not been directed at me and so I may have over-reacted. Sorry. As usual with anonymous boards, it gets confusing as to who is speaking to who.

Yeh, speaking of which, wtf is the GLF on Ayumu's shirt for? (Surely not Great Leap Forward, please...)
Oh, one nice thing is that it seems like some of the characters actually change their clothes.
GLF, maybe a misspelling of GOLF?
I've now seen the first four eps. (everything Triad has fsubbed), and I still can't see the supposed ero tendencies.
Honestly, I suspect this is all in the mind of a certain class of viewers - the ones who are so conditioned to erotic responses to anime that they'll fap to Hamtaro or Crayon Shin-chan. :-)

GLF 最高 (・Д・)ノシ
"kimowota"?
"kimoi wotaku".
In other news, I had great fun looking up the "rods" (or "sky fish") mentioned in episode 3. This really is stuff people believe in, although even among UFO nuts, this one's considered pretty suspect.
http://www.roswellrods.com/
http://www.forteantimes.com/exclusive/rods.shtml
http://www.ufotheatre.com/rods/rods.htm <-- Not even misspelled UFO sites believe this.
http://skepdic.com/rods.html
http://www.roswellrods.com/ab7.html <-- This is totally awseome - a sky fish figure!
And "kimoi" is? I don't find the definition.
As for skyfishes, it seems to have caught in Japan, but not in other countries. My first exposure to the name was from an anime (The World of Narue).
Wiki's entry doesn't even bother to give the pros, only the cons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_%28cryptozoology%29
"Kimoi" is a very rude word for "disgusting" or such.
Were there skyfishes in Narue? I must have forgotten.
kimoi = kimochi warui
Are there only like 3 people who use this board regularly?

Was that the pedo or the furry one? I'm pretending I've forgotten which is which again already....
Wonderful, Zettai Shonen 5 by Triad is now out. (・∀・)
It's not furry so I think it's 'pedo'.
The previews are definitely furry, though.
Instant review of new Speed Grapher OP in ep 12:
Holy fuck.
If only the rest of the series looked this cool.
Come on, don't tell me I'm the only one who watched it so far.
I must say that this season isn't very exciting.
The shows I'm looking for: Bleach (tho it has lost some of its original spunk), Zipang (dry, but good stuff - tho not even from this season), Erementar Gerad (well, it has decent action scenes and art), Trinity Blood (it's prettyyy) and One Piece (I love it).
The rest, like Gundam Seed Destiny, Speed Grapher, Futakoi Alternative etc., I have on the back burner, to be watched later.
What on earth are you talking about? This season has three shows that are both high quality, entertaining and intelligent, when usually you'd be happy to have just one. There's Emma, Honey & Clover, and Zettai Shounen.
I'm agreeing with Waha here. Those 3 rock my socks, underwear and spectacles off... I'm really glad that there are these 3 shows I can enjoy so much.
The rest of the stuff I'm watching so far is
SG (okay story, great potential but SHIT animation - thanks Gonzo!)
Sousei no Aquarion (guilty pleasure from laughing my ass off at the intended cheesiness of it all. Really, it's not that funny, but...)
Eureka Seven (was getting annoying, but recently okay - it's not as good as I thought, great production values but rather bland storyline)
'sit.
>>95 'Seems that we don't have the same tastes. Nothing wrong with that, that's why we are different individuals.
Emma: anime is so-so, I don't get the same elated feeling as with the manga. Manga is great.
Zettai Shounen: I'm watching it to find out the mystery, but otherwise it's a somewhat boring slice-of-life anime.
Honey & Clover: BORING! Boring boring boring. I'm comatose after I watch an episode. No thanks. >_<
Sousei no Aquarion: cheesy, monster of the day stuff. The art is okay tho. But I cannot relate to any of the characters.
Eureka Seven: good start, then went into Stellvia mode (self introspecting loser boy). I cannot identify with anyone in the show anymore. Art is okay. And, it's not getting subbed anymore it seems? Last I saw was ep5.
It seems to be the case. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate One Piece and Erementar Gerad and Trinity Blood (I personally think Gonzo shouldn't have done this and left the budget to SG), and of course GSD (though it's staaaaarting to get a biiiit itneresting now).
Sling, I'm sorry we're not (・∀・)人(・∀・)ナカーマ.

Try Gokujo Seitokai or Futakoi Alt. Futalt's plot is going somewhere odd and uncomfortable now (~7), but according to those weird anime blog people it gets better again later.
Is there a current review site with lots of screens and quick impressions like http://jascii.net/ used to have?
Or I could just download ep01 of every single series that comes out, is that what everyone else does?

They have amazingly bad taste, but they sure watch a lot of anime raws.
I kind of like http://hkenshin.soldats.net/ too.

Gokujo Seitokai: the art/animation/plot was so bad after ep1, I gave up early. When an anime is a comedy and I'm not laughing, there's something wrong. Most likely I'm not the intended audience.
Futakoi Alt.: great start, then it became some kind of existentialist cinema, with endless instrospection. It picked some speed with the Gothic Lolita episode then went back to "I have no job" "My dad was so great" etc. The art/animation is amazing so I keep plodding thru (actually I'm fastforwarding thru nowadays, it has sunk that low to my eyes.) The ep with the twin teachers left a bitter taste - the reason they broke up is not really explained, instead they go into an acid trip scene. Maybe the anime is a metaphor for someone who lost everything because of drugs and is slowly climbing his way back?
Giving up on Gokujou Seitokai at episode 1 was the wrong decision. It's one of the few shows worth following this season.
Kamichu ep 01 raw:
Girls coming of age doing miko things, calling out spirits and stuff. Main girl is small and meek and whiny and shy but potentially powerful. Fluid animation.
So far I don't understand a single thing that's happened in Kamichu. Nice animation, though.
Kamichu ep 1 raw
WTF is this kami-sakuga?
Very good audio direction, it's coming from the same person who did Emma - really get a scale of the damage and whatever, very detailed. Great music also. I look forward to seeing more!
Okusama wa Joshi Kousei ep 01 raw:
anime adaptation of the Hiyoko Brand manga, a schoolgirl is married to a teacher in secret. Embarrassing situations ensue.
I'm a bit disappointed in the anime version. The girl in the anime version seems to suffer from exotropia (=divergent strabismus, eyes look outwards) which detracts from her manga image of a charmingly naive lovely girl. And sometimes one of her eyes is located out of place. Hopefully the animators (Koreans? I see a bunch of Korean names in the credits. No Japanese post-production Quality Control?) will have caught up to the manga style for the other episodes.
Da Capo Second Season - 01(RAW):
I need to see this subbed, it looks like good fun.
At at glance, it seems that it's a similar story to the first season, but using different characters this time. I suspect that the similarities to the first season will soon stop and branch elsewhere.
Amaenaideyo!! ep 01 raw:
Not sure what is going on in this one. Apparently, it's the story of a boy who visits an all-girl buddhist temple and falls in love with one of the girls and so ends up joining the team. Hilarity and ecchi situations ensue.
Similarly to Kamichu, the boy seems to have strong latent powers that are useful against evil spirits. Kamichu would be the shoujo version, and Amaenaideyo the shounen version.
Moeyo_Ken_TV_01 raw
A Takahashi hodge-podge. Let's see, we have ancient Japan, rocket launchers, youkais, paper shinigamis, a bunch of obasan fighters, a cocky young boy with a pigtail, a giant cat with a big appetite...
The plot plays out like a series of sketches put together, a bit stiff but probably because it's the first episode.
Pani Poni Dash! ep 01 raw
A teacher first day at school. Problem is, she's a kid so things don't pan too well. Plus, her class - actually, the whole school - no, actually the whole town - no, the whole planet and surroundings - is a bit crazy (but overall enthusiastic).
Cuteness abounds.
Okusama_wa_Mahoushoujo_01 raw:
An married, modern witch lives in a town with her mother. Husband is not there so she's lonely. New characters arrive to the scene to liven things up. A feel-good episode with warm colors, tho I suppose it's going to get darker later on.
Gun_x_Sword_01 raw
A Western from the East (Eastern?): gunfights, swords, saloons, giant robots, Western towns, nano metal. The hero is named Vash, er I mean Van. Not Van the Stampede or anything, just Van. And his trench coat is black, not red.
Sugar_Sugar_Rune_01 raw
Some Queen from some magical world sends her 2 daughters to the human world/school for training. One has blue clothes and is subdued, the other has red clothes and is unruly. Everybody has way too much make-up and jewelry and weird hairdos, even the men. A bad example for the young viewers, methinks. At least in school the extravagancy is toned down, whew. Chara design is standard shoujo, tho I find this one here a bit creepy.
For some reason I kept falling asleep while trying to watch the episode... ^^; I gave up before the end. The art and animation is well done but there is no life in it.
TIDE-LINE_BLUE_01 raw
A planet that doesn't look like Earth, or more likely Earth got partially submerged. People are living a simple life in a remote island, near a military base (uh-oh). Things get heated up suddenly as many life-changing events begin to take place.
A grand saga it seems. Some very dramatic moments, wow. And the ostrich is a riot.
Suzuka_01 raw
A boy arrives in a new town and will work at a bathhouse while srudying. The neighbors are all pretty girls, as well the landlord and her daughter. The only other man in sight is in the preview, and looks like a rival.
Typical hentai anime plot, animation style and dialog. But without any unf action, it's just a simple love story.
Akahori Gedou Hour Rabuge ep 01 raw
Parody. Incompetent alien dirty pair clone versus 5 competent human magical witches. All girls. It feels a bit like Puni Puni Poemi, but with much less of the manic pace and the over-the-top jokes.
Animation is of high quality. Pretty to look at.
SHUFFLE!_01 raw
A schoolboy who is hesitating between several girls get chosen to be the husband of two non-human girls. "What?" Well, it's not well explained in the episode either. The teaser/preview explained more than ep1: the human world connected with two other worlds, the devils and the angels. So now non-human exchange students are in schools.
I was distracted in this ep1 by the shadows of the characters: from one scene to the next, the shadows are never at the same place, and in one scene there is even two charas with opposite lighting. ^^;
Ep1 plays at a much more leisurely pace than the teaser, I think I liked the teaser better. OTOH the soundtrack for the teaser was cheap h-game music, which has been corrected in ep1.
The girls all look the same, except for the hair and the ears. Even the personalities seem to stem from the same mold. Hopefully this will change in future episodes.
Tide Line Blue
Great animation, good direction (keeps my attention) and nice visuals overall (though knowing the director I'm wary of whether the 3D will get too obnoxious). The story might just be interesting, but we don't know yet so I won't say anything. The characters are a little familiar but also a little different. The big thing that makes you wonder is why the hell was the main female lead pregnant at the age of 16? Who screwed her? Was it rape? Personally I can feel there's something different about the character relationships compared to most anime. Firstly the main girls in the seires are both older than the guys (16 and 19 vs two 14 year olds). Secondly it's not like people are really mean - Teen may have seemed a little mean but he was still nice enough to ask them to come over to his ship. And also, usually in most adventure stories you don't have a little baby tagging along. Now how is Kiiru going to play a 'father'ly role? Which anime have we seen where 14 year olds do that?
Ok, that's enough crap for now.
Petopeto-san ep 01 raw:
Looks like a variant of Shuffle!, but instead of demons/angels at school, the foreign students are youkai (=demons, monsters, goblins). One boy gets stuck on a youkai girl, and they have to sleep to get rid of the curse. But the boy is young and he can't sleep with the girl he felt in love at first sight so close to him. Hilarity ensues (or not).
GUN SWORD Instant Review:
Van (NOT SPIKE) has a very goth costume and his gimmicks seem to be apathy and covering all his food in condiments. His opponent in episode 1 is, as far as I can tell, transplanted from Bobobobobo Bobobo. I don't care about anything else, that guy and his constant shouting of LUCKY are enough to make up for anything. I'm sold.
MUTEKI! SUTEKI!
episode 2 addendum: he fights a legion of mustache fighters led by "Baron Mayor". I still think this is actually Bobobo.
Ichigo_Mashimaro_01 raw
Very young girls doing cute nothings. One quarter of the episode was about fighting sleepingness while working on a birthday present. Zzzzz...
> Zzzzz...
Comment on the episode, or your reaction?
Wouldn't that be the same, kinda?
It's a pedo lolicon anime. It's not supposed to feature anything but very young girls doing cute nothings.
>Comment on the episode, or your reaction?
Both.
I mean, it's well animated, and it does appeal to one's "mother's instinct", seeing one's kids growing up and trying to do things that are difficult for kids, things like that.
But I failed to get involved. The kids are working their asses off to make a birthday present for the older sister, but the older sister comes out as a lazy, revengeful, chain smoker bitch, so why should I care that she gets a birthday present? ^^;
Yeah yeah I know, in the end she shows up to be compassionate... in the very end. And even then she had to go and scribble on the girl's face some (nasty?) comment. Oh boy. This place needs some parenting... hey where is everybody, anyway? I have yet to see a single other soul around.
