I think there's a difference between trying to act like an anime character, and just plain acting like an anime character unconsciously.

There is a difference. One is deliberate and the other? Not so much.

I'll admit, I find myself acting a lot like various characters out of manga, anime, and video games I take in.

It's not deliberate, but just something that kind of happens.

We see something, like a few lines or so we like, and we emulate them and incorporate it into our daily speech.

Now acting in ways that we have no business doing...

Response to >>1, Yes I know some. Some are noisy, either in a chippy way, often yelling Japanese stuff at random. Others are angry fangirls. The former tend to be tiny and cute, if annoying, the latter tend to be fat and unattractive. Others tend to be more normal.

Thought so. Sometimes I wonder if I have an inner fifteen year-old fanboy somewhere in my brain, although fanservice does make me laugh most of the time. And yes, Ichigo 100% was my first read in this genre, and I definitely wasn't disappointed by the ending, even though a fair number of things made me go "huh"...

XDXD Yay! Female moe fans! I'm getting over the initial thought of "I'm watching some like, 10 year old girls play doctor, and I'm not finding it creepy. Oh dear."

I think I like the ideal small child image they have, because I hate children in real life. (They cry too much, whine too much, yell too much...) I like the little sister/brother character, because though I know all too well that's not how they are in real life, that's how I'd like them to be >_>;;
Moe girls cry, but at least they're cute while they're doing it.

why is this thread still alive!?
I thought I burned you fags into the ground.

Ah well!

regardless, I'm doing a good job, if I do say so myself. I have a little sister. She's about to enter 7th grade.

So far, she's pretty good at web design, she's been messing with toolsets for games for years now, she likes D&D style games, JRPGs, and visual novels... she keeps up with anime, she watches nico videos all day, she's hit high levels in MMORPGs, she listens to doujin music, and she's got most melty blood combos down. Oh, and yesterday she beat touhou 7 on hard. No lunatic yet, but getting there!

She isn't a total fucking dumbass on the 'net either. Modding imageboards and game servers is serious business at age 11. Her typing/grammar is better than mine on things like IRC, etc.

Pretty sure she knows 4-ch exists, but I'm positive she doesn't really hang around. Guess I'm making this post in her name.

So, keep your eyes open gentlemen. There's hope. All we need is more older brothers.

Well I will say this my girlfriend is not an otaku but normies are good. Because of her I exercise and I lost about 100 pounds and am much happier now. I guess what I am trying to say is find what makes you happy and do not try for an otaku girlfriend or try to mold one, just enjoy what you can get and change if you like it. BTW she hates most anime (except host club for some reason).

A lot more than hentai, actually. My favorite animes are: Evangelion, Full Metal Panic, Death Note, Samurai Champloo, Gantz, Elfen Lied, Cromartie, Hare Guu, and Haruhi. is a mod for 7chan a bad person???

156 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-09-10 13:09 ID:Heaven

Everyone here seems to think so... Anyway, he calls himself a "bad person" all the time, but he's really a very good person to everyone he cares about... It's just that if he's dealing with a stranger, he doesn't give a shit if the person dies on the spot... I've never met someone with such a world view before... O_o;;

Anyway, I think the chan's have a pretty bad rep, but I can't see the real problem with them. The only people they ever raid are people who need to sit down and analyze their lives anyway... It's all people who present themselves as representatives of their hobbies/fetishes instead of putting their personality first. I think maybe there is a good side to these raids, but no one ever sees them.

I'm not excusing some of /b/'s really bad cracking, though. Crackers are bad. Even black hatters go overboard sometimes. I just don't think /b/ is entirely bad.

Does it count as dating if she was creepy, almost stalker-esque and no matter how much I tried to get rid of her she continuously pestered me, often to the point of me being even more uncomfortable than usual in my social-ineptness?

If yes then I have indeed dated a female otaku. Never. Again.

164 Name: Cynic : 2007-09-27 14:42 ID:mlAN9SSo

Oh, girl otaku are a CUH-RAZY bunch. Speaking as one, I sometimes really resent being one, especially when other female otaku assume I'm just like them and show me things I don't want to see. And I hate fanfiction with a passion, unless it's very well done, which still doesn't cover up the fact that it's Sephiroth having sex with Cait Sith. ~no thanks.~

Anyway, there are plenty of female otaku, and sometimes there's variety amongst them. They like to travel in herds and make that really screechy IIIIIIII! noise whenever they see something they like.

Occasionally, you'll find one that is kind, reasonable, and worth having. Congratualtions if you do manage this and she isn't underage. Good luck.

165 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-01 13:26 ID:/nrEauUX

>>164

(OT: I've often wondered why 90% of fanfic contains gay sex and then another 9% contains straight sex. Some of us would just like to explore scenarios if they happened differently, but it seems the minds of all the authors are well in the gutter. Well I guess mine is too, but in different ways. Ahem.)

On topic again:

Yes... this underage thing is a real problem. Even living in a country where 16 is the legal age, you still run into way too much jailbait (confirmed this just this weekend.) So trying to pick up at anime or indeed any pop culture festivals is too random to bother with. Unless someone creates one for old school fans so that the young kids don't flood it.

166 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-06 01:27 ID:XqS8QDUa

I'm a girl, but I don't know if I'm considered an otaku, I mean, I know some Japanese because of many years of watching fansubs and I've been drawing since I first watched Samurai Pizza Cats, dragon ball and Sailor Moon... I watch anime or play games every chance I get (Just finished 3 series of anime couple weeks ago). Also, I think I'm the one of the only authentic anime fans in school, while the other kids are just retarded weeaboos with FMA key chains and Naruto headbands. They try too hard to make themselves seem cool and funny by saying, really loudly in the presence of other people, "Okay, speak English, no one's going to understand you if you make jokes in Japanese!!" while they sip their strawberry soy milk and eat their Pocky. I don't mean to sound mean, but I guess I had to vent someplace.

Doesn't it feel like you're the only authentic fan? (wherever you are?)

But, I digress, that really had nothing to do with >>1 's post, also, I kinda summed up what other people wrote.

167 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-13 05:53 ID:TSleotQM

>>166

Yeah. I mean, it's one thing to own keychains because you like the show, but it's another to own them just for the sole purpose of saying "I own a Japanese keychain from FMA!!!" I eat Pocky, but only because it tastes good, not because it's "OMG JAPANESEEEE!!!". And I don't eat it at school (people always want a pack).

It always ticked me off when they advertised Rave Master in the school book order forms as "This book is COOL! It reads BACKWARDS!".

I've been lucky to meet two fellow girl otaku that don't go squealing about how hot Itachi is 24/7, or how much yaoi fanfiction they've been reading. They're competent otaku. That makes me very happy.

Good luck finding competent women otaku you guys...

i think being an otaku is ok as long as they dont get too annoying. i consider myself one but i dont go around travelin in packs talkin bout how awsome naruto is(narutards ftw!?!) and bla blah. but i think its a good thing to be proud to a certain degree. ;O

169 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-13 15:59 ID:Kmfx+XQn

Recently I found someone that likes anime at my junior college but I don't really feel like I can connect to him with meaningful conversations because all he likes is pretty much anime he has seen on TV and Shonen Jump magazine. I have a broad knowledge of all kinds of anime so it's kind of hard trying to relate to him.

I think the problem here is that these kind of people, as well as narutards and whatnot, are beginner anime fans. But I think they are also not willing to go outside their usual anime watching preferences and expand their mind with different genres.

170 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-14 01:53 ID:/nrEauUX

I think it would be pretty cool, to meet a otaku girl at my college, I my self watch anime and read manga pretty casually nothing crazy, I don't have a room wall to wall with figures or anything. Then again I have got friends who were not into anime at all and because of me they are now fans. So heck I'd be fine to just meet a girl I can get to like anime, I'd be a super plus to find a girl who's as big a One Piece fan as I am but, I am probably never gonna happen.

>>217 You're wrong. ^_^ Very wrong. I've seen female otaku with my own eyes that aren't ugly at all lol.
But really now, are all male otaku incredibly sexy? They're usually ugly/fat too lol. Yet there are normal ones too. geez.

Though notice how 2D female otaku are almost always cute. The artists might put a flaw in somewhere in an attempt to make them less cute, but it hasn't worked yet.

Female otaku here.
Thin, and at least reasonably attractive. Maybe the misconception that there aren't any/many good looking otaku out there comes from some of us not being obviously otaku. I certainly don't hide it, but I don't announce it... you'd be unlikely to suspect i was an otaku just looking at me or having a casual conversation.

Whenever I go to a convention though, the ratio is something like 1 cute to 9 ugly.

>>223 You're a lucky one. They never number more than a handful where I am. More like 1 passable to 9 (ohgodmyeyes)ugly.

Well when I say cute, perhaps 95% of the cute ones are also underage. :-(

You don't even want to know what lurks around Sacramento's anual Anime con....shivers or do you? XD
This was no ordinary otaku girl...this was a fat lady in her 30-40's+, who cosplays prettymuch any character with a short skirt or school girls.
She's usually found bending over in front of cameras. >.>
What's worse, is she was one of the staff, and runs the cosplay skit session...shivers I think those dimply-chunky legs burnt out my eyes and ruined every character I ever seen her cosplay.
(not to mention her face looked like the witch from Wizard of OZ.)
