Shoujo ai in games (37)

1 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-10-04 08:08 ID:5dJP5KXX

Alright guys, this could also be in the romance board but I think gamers will know better.

Name your favorite shoujo ai couples in games. They don't have to actually be a couple. You can also just imagine them together or the game implies that. Shoujo ai means girls' love.

I will start with one of the most famous shoujo ai couple.

Aeris and Tifa!!! (poor cloud)

P.S. post a pic of them together if possible :3

> shoujo ai

This is not an English word why did you say it

3 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-10-05 14:41 ID:Heaven

Maybe they felt that "Girls Love" sounded retarded.

OMG dude, plz read the title before you post. This is about shoujo ai in games and not anime. But now you mention it, maybe you are right, there are much more shoujo ai couples in anime, i guess will post there too.

>>2
why should i say english words? shoujo ai is a famous word among gaming and anime otaku like me.
shoujo ai = girl love. It means love between two girls.

So any couples?

I will post another one. Yuna and Lulu from FFX

> shoujo ai = girl love. It means love between two girls.

So say "love between two girls."
It gains nothing from being in Japanese.

...except that perhaps he's referring to coupling of Japanese characters in Japanese games...? Grow up and stop nitpicking.

My favorite love between two girls couple in games is the female player character and Juhani in Star Wars: KOTOR. Unlike both of the Final Fantasy examples, they actually get some action.

Actually no, I just want to troll >>8 and/or the OP.

OMG!!!

DUDE I AM talking about games and especially about the characters IN the games!

Sheesh.... you are so lame, you post just to tell me you believe i am in the wrong board? Then just don't post at all.

Same about everyone else who posted about shoujo ai. That's the way I wanna say it and that's the way I will! If you don't know what shoujo ai is then DON'T POST!

Next couple: Rinoa and Quistis from FFVIII

OMGDUDENOWAI

You posting about ecchi/hentai, fictional sexual fantasies involving fictional imagery, not characters or anything involving the games themselves.

I'm not going to judge you based on that, we all have our kinks whether it's bare ankles or swap.avi.
But you are quite clearly in the wrong board, and you will find a larger audience for this in anime and/or manga, and what you won't find is anyone critical of such a topic.

Once again, from the header in Anime:

> Hentai discussion is also allowed.

The exception proves the rule.

Here's My Favourite Couple, regardless:
L-Shaped Tetris block and red/yellow Dr. Mario Pill

>>not characters or anything involving the games themselves.

Yeah Tifa and Aeris are not characters and especially not characters of Final Fantasy VII. Oh whoops... Final Fantasy VII isn't a game in it?

...

And the fact that they're characters in a game has what to do with this topic? That's the point. You're just saying "It'd be hot if this game character got it on with this got character!" They might as well be anime characters, novel characters or any other of the myriad forms that figments of people's imaginations would take. Your fantasies, generalized, are irrelevant to gaming.

If you want to start a remotely respectable discussion about lesbianism in gaming, try asking "Which games have lesbian relationships in them?" or "Let's discuss using canon facts why we think these characters might be lesbians" - prompts with which the games and the characters can examined beyond their suitability as fap material.

>>If you want to start a remotely respectable discussion about lesbianism in gaming, try asking "Which games have lesbian relationships in them?" or "Let's discuss using canon facts why we think these characters might be lesbians"

That's exactly what I am asking. It seems noone in 4ch is familiar with the words shoujo ai... I am dissapointed

So this has become a cannon vs fannon debate? How does something being cannon make it more related to video games than if it's fannon?

I'm sure there is more of an audience for this in /anime/, but saying that hentai and/or discussion of hentai is not allowed anywhere except /anime/ is kind of debasing... Homedude wants to have a discussion of game characters eating pussy. Not all anime otaku play games, so it's valid to put such a discussion in /games/.

shrugs Then again, I'm the one who's bored enough to argue with a troll... Have fun ruining people's days... (>_>);;

You worded it poorly, then. "They don't have to actually be a couple", as well as giving such an example, suggests to me that you might easily have no real respect for or meaningful interest in the characters. Read my response to >>17 below.

>>17

> How does something being cannon make it more related to video games than if it's fannon?

Because it actually draws upon some knowledge of the game. I don't hate fanon, but it's often difficult to distinguish from pure bullshit.

I mean, I can go pair Yuna and Payne from FFX-2 in a similar manner to the OP, and I haven't even played FFX-2. Thus, the fact that they are game characters are irrelevant: for all you know, I did nothing more than google image search the two and decide they are hot and would be even hotter if they got jiggy with it together. I could care less about their characters or personalities- it's just mental masturbation.

At least if I start thinking of ways to rationalize the characters' spurious sapphism within the game's story and their own personalities (...which, in the case of FFX-2 characters, I have received the impression is not all that difficult) then I'm dealing with them as marginally more then sex objects, and their game of origin as more than packaging for some hot digital babes.

> So this has become a cannon vs fannon debate?

It was a joke that seems to have turned into a debate. Sorry.

> saying that hentai and/or discussion of hentai is not allowed anywhere except /anime/ is kind of debasing

It's expressly allowed in /anime/, so I'd say it's safe to assume that it's not welcome elsewhere.
It's like seeing a no-loitering sign outside a store. You make the valid assumption that standing around doing nothing is acceptable anywhere else.
The exception proves the rule.

>>16
We're disappointed you don't know that the English language already has plenty of colorful words to describe 'girl's love'.
Using bullshit romaji japanese and posting to the wrong audience only complicates the ability of people to find this topic, and your desire to not get trolled.

>>18
Thanks for clearing up the character vs image issue.

>>We're disappointed you don't know that the English language already has plenty of colorful words to describe 'girl's love'.

1)I couldn't care less about the words in english language, I am learning japanese now.
2)shoujo ai means something different and cannot be easily expressed in english words thats why i used that word.

>>18

>>You worded it poorly, then. "They don't have to actually be a couple", as well as giving such an example, suggests to me that you might easily have no real respect for or meaningful interest in the characters.

Obviously you cannot understand the purpose of this thread so stop trolling. I am a big FFVII fan and know much and care much about the Aeris and Tifa. I said that, to explain to people like you that when shoujo ai pairing, the two girls don't have to be a real couple in the game. Also when you pair two girls you have a reason to do that. It may seem to you like they just pair them because they are hot but each person sees the game characters in a different way, so he/she may think that those characters match together.

> 1)I couldn't care less about the words in english language, I am learning japanese now.

This statement is so fucking stupid I can't even be bothered to list the reasons why.
But here's Reason #1 (of roughly 5):

> 3) With exceptions to the languages and japanese boards, English is only to be used.

http://4-ch.net/view/rules

> 2)shoujo ai means something different and cannot be easily expressed in english words thats why i used that word.
> Shoujo ai means girls' love.

Or we could just say lesbian fantasy.

22 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-10-12 16:47 ID:Heaven

> Also when you pair two girls you have a reason to do that.

Then explain that reason. That would be a start.

23 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-10-12 21:09 ID:zidAUNml

>>21
>>3) With exceptions to the languages and japanese boards, English is only to be used.
Do I speak japanese? No, I just used a japanese term that you have a really hard time understanding. I will make my last effort to explain.

Shoujo ai is not about fapping to lesbians. It's about romance. When a girl admires another as a friend, does that make her a lesbian? No. I use the term shoujo ai to describe that. People familiar with the term will know exactly what I mean. I know you can't. But because you can't understand the term that doesn't mean I don't have to use it. It's really hard to describe with words.

Shoujo ai can also mean a love that a girl expresses to another girl. This time getting more intimate. Nevertheless, It's mostly about romance, and not the sex part.

The word you are looking for about fapping to lesbian sex is Yuri. (i won't bother explaining it, google it)

>>22
Alright so the reason I pair Tifa and Aeris is because during the game, Cloud didn't give too much attention to either Tifa or Aeris. We saw some cut scenes but that's all. So I just make this alternate universe where Tifa finds support in Aeris' hug.

I know I made the mistake to post that pic with the word lesbian and it confused everyone.

>>23
You're a prick.

> In Japanese, the term yuri is typically used to mean any attraction between girls, whether sexual or romantic, explicit or implied.
> The term shōjo-ai is scarcely, if ever, used with these meanings in Japan; instead, the terms shōnen-ai and shōjo-ai tend to denote pedophilia. Ironically, the English term "girllove" has this exact meaning and userbase

You've just failed Japanese class, get the hell out of my class room.

>>24 is correct.
Examples of how the phrase 少女愛 (“shōjo ai”) is used in Japanese are a mere google search away.

Here's a book on Amazon, for example, with 少女愛 as its title:
少女愛

Note the description:
「人はなぜ、いたいけな少女を愛してしまうのか。「ロリコン」の歴史的背景を丹念に検証し、幼い女の子に愛を抱いてきた人間たちの心を考察する。“「ロリコン」とは何か”を知るための必読書。 」

"Why do people fall in love with innocent little girls? This book thoroughly explores the historical background behind the 'Lolita complex,’ examining the minds of those who held feelings of romantic love for young girls. It’s a must-read for learning just what the Lolita complex really is.”

――――――――
I don't see a specific problem with the English slang "shoujo ai" having a different meaning than the Japanese phrase 少女愛, in the same way that anime, manga, and hentai don’t mean the same things they mean in Japanese, but it's a little silly to say you use the English slang phrase "because you're learning Japanese." (>>20) If you want the Japanese slang for cute girl-girl love stories, the word you’re looking for is 百合 (“yuri”). (I do sympathize with the issue that the English word “lesbian” doesn’t convey the “cute innocent nervous girly love” nuance that you want.)
――――――――

It should be noted that using 少女愛 to refer to girl-girl romance is not nonexistent, just rare. For example, here’s another book (comic) on Amazon:
レズビアン-少女愛
(“Lesbian - Shōjo Ai”)

Nevertheless, pedophilia is usually the first thing that comes to mind upon hearing the phrase 少女愛 in Japanese.
